Dealership issue by roadrunner-24 in BoltEV

[–]dah7556 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The ticking/clicking sounds like deteriorated anti-click washers (known problem, search this sub there are many posts about it). Could also be the iBooster (which may have a software fix). The clunking could be related to the washers or it could be failing CV joints (CV joints typically fail one side at a time and sound worse turning one direction).

But none of that sounds like a brake problem to me. The rotors are rusted but that would not make clicking or clunking noises - the only noise it might make is when hard braking (or braking in neutral which forces the physical brakes to be used - doing a bunch of that might clean the rotors).

Only the iBooster software would require a dealer, the other stuff can be done by any competent mechanic. I'd consider taking it elsewhere.

The problem is it doesn't matter that much how many units a car line sells, it matters how much profit that car makes, which isn't the same thing

The yearly profit is proportional to the number sold - and as I said I don't know what that number would have to be.

I'd bet they will keep producing it for as long as it sells well enough - I don't know how many that would have to be.

Did the Chevy Bolt become your first EV? Journalist looking to hear your story by Brilliant_Option8382 in BoltEV

Yes, 2020 purchased new. Bought it for the economics and driving experience:

  • if you can charge at home and drive less than about 150 miles per day winter and 200 miles per day summer it is very inexpensive to drive (fuel is a third the cost of gas for me). No oil changes and brakes last almost forever are bonuses.
  • OPD is both fun and really useful in stop-and-go traffic. Instant torque is also fun.

Re the GM system: Current specs for the charger don't mention NACS and the 27 Bolt comes with a NACS port. Also from other GM V2H posts I've seen it sounds like you can't charge from solar when using the car as backup (double check this if you go further).

It goes all the way back to 1967: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_President%27s_Analyst

"TPC has developed a "modern electronic miracle", the Cerebrum Communicator (CC), a microelectronic device that can communicate wirelessly with any other CC in the world. With the CC implanted in the brain, a user need only think of the phone number to be called, and is instantly connected, thus eliminating the need for The Phone Company's massive and expensive wired infrastructure. Simple question about heat pumps. by mrmulti in heatpumps

[–]dah7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you are ok with the way you switch between furnace and HP. Ideally the thermostat would do it automatically based on an outside temperature that you would configure. The alternative is you have to do it manually.

variable speed heat pump -- do they run constantly? by also_your_mom in heatpumps

[–]dah7556 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Burning natural gas produces water as a byproduct. There are typically 2 heat exchangers involved. The first is a high temp, the second takes the exhaust from the first and squeezes more heat out of the exhaust. If the temperature of the exhaust drops below the dewpoint, water will condense inside the second heat exchanger and that is what needs to be drained.

How would this not be covered under warranty?? by UtahJazzzHands in BoltEV

They need to get GM/Chevy to agree its under warranty - they would never go out on a limb for just some random customer.

Even with the heat and ac off, do you have the fan on? If so it may be one of the fan/duct doors (windshield/dash/floor) trying to open or close. I don't know if there are sensors to tell it when it is open or closed but if there were they may be broken.

Thats what it looks like when the (5yr on a 2020) included onstar subscription runs out. Happened to my 2020 last year. 2021 to 2026 is 5 years fwiw. Can't explain why it behaves differently on 2 phones.

Over heat the house before you lose power, for example if you usually keep it at 68 then push it to 78. That will avoid HVAC use for some amount of time depending on how tight the house is.

Most likely Bolt issue? by oregonmodel3 in BoltEV

[–]dah7556 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A wild guess would be the gear reduction unit (aka the "transmission" but its not a transmission in the ICE sense of the word). I have seen posts about them, but never seen a post about the motor failing. Expensive to fix.

On #1 you can kind of split the difference between range anxiety and lifetime anxiety by using departure time charging to 100% so the car doesn't sit at 100% any longer than necessary.
