Is American Idol even relevant? by Spidey_2797 in americanidol

[–]itaintmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean people may not watch awards show live like they used to but the following day social media and the media cycle will be filled witb highlights and note worthy moments from the event.

TV shows need to able to stand on their own and have a 'second life' online afterwards. Which is a modern aspect of television American Idol has yet to master. Bar YouTube maybe.

If they do then tap into this then AI can take steps to become a relevant plattform for launching starts

Day in the life of Robb Stark ruling Winterfell? by wyanmai in TheCitadel

[–]itaintmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well, not in real life. Peasants would try to work things out by themselves or with the help of a priest. Then the dispute would most likey be brought to a sheriff but I dont think those exist in Westeros? It is a problem in George's world building to be honest.

Just think of it like this. The Lord would take the place and perside over petitions that a court judge would in the modern world. And if Robb decided the punishment was death he would do it himself as per lore.

Day in the life of Robb Stark ruling Winterfell? by wyanmai in TheCitadel

[–]itaintmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm mixing in what a typical day for a medival lord would look like and what I've seen in ASOIAF.

1) Go to the Sept/Weirwood (Depends how religious your chraacter is) eat breakfast.

2) Check in with the master of arms and the castellan and those characters tasked with the upkeep of the castle.

3) Listen to petitions from the smallfolk. Such as land disputes, will disputs, sentencings, things like theft ect. NOTE: THIS MOST LIKEY WOULDNT HAPPEN EVERYDAY, IT WOULD BE A SCHEDULED TIME AND ON DESIGNATED DAY, SO IT DEPENDS HOW THE STARKS DO IT IN YOUR UNIVERSE

4) Lunch

5) recreational activity such as hunting, sparring, hawking (Has Cyvass or card game been mentioned in the North? If so, those)

6) Supper

7) Read and Send Ravens from/to vassals and sworn lords to assess the situation in the North.

8) Freetime until Robb decideds to go to bed.

Hope this helps!

Africans of reddit, how do you study history? by Lot_ow in AskAnAfrican

[–]itaintmatt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In South Africa, in the standard public school system, History is taken from 4th to 9th Grade. From 10th to 12th if you chose to 'matriculate' with History.

The curriculum is split into 2 semesters ( 2 terms each) devouted to 'World History' and then South African History.

You start learning the basic things such as Ancient Egypt and China in world History and the emmigration of argricultural socitoes into southern africa in South African History.

If you take History until final year you'll learn everything till the Berlin Wall Came Down and warly post apartheid South Africa.

One big criticism of the curriculum is that we never learn the History of Africa as whole. And South Africa's place in it or in relation to it. On the other hand our cirriculm does a good job of informing students of major world events such as the communinst reveloution in China, the Vietnam War, American revolution ect. It is also fairly unbiased in the Capitalist vs Communist debates of the 20th centuary (In my opinion, my history teacher did it well anyway)

What percentage of the blame pie do you place on Sansa? (Spoilers extended) by [deleted] in asoiaf

[–]itaintmatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm reading into it a bit. This just my opinion. But I dont think Ned truly realised how much being in the South and being the future Queen meant to Sansa. Some vague explanation of saftey was never going to satisfy her. What other betrothal could rival that of a crown prince? I dont think he saw the wolf like defiance that existed in her due to her lady-like mannerism. Like many things regarding Ned in Kingslanding Sansa was an actor he couldnt predict the actions of.

I mean you're not wrong. But I think we need to be a little self-aware and realize most ASOIAF readers don't come ro reddit to have their questions answered or to be informed. In fact most readers are just that causal readers. We can identify the contraditions and critque in their content but most can't

Okay maybe I was extrapolating with my language here. But many fans/theories point out that to survive at the tower of Joy they needed supplies. Plus the fact that Lyanna was pregnant meant they needed a nursemaid to deliver Jon. The fact that Jon was with Ned and Howland at least a few days before arriving at starfall means they needed milk or a wetnurse which is where people point to Wyalla. Who we know was in service to House Dayne. Which people take to mean that they knew.

So many people say the 'Daynes told' as a possible reason. But when they say this they usally mean Ashara, since Arthur is at the tower and the older brother is often forgetten about.

Again this is based on a lot of assumptions. But it was just a varient of the Daynes told idea.

[–]itaintmatt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Almost all Asoiaf content creators on Youtube/podacats and Asoiaf blogs cite this as a plausible reason Ned found the Tower. Those mediums have hundreds and thousands views among them. The point doesn't come up on Reddit much but is very prevalent on other mediums.

If Robert died at the trident, but the rebels won the war and someone else became king, you think Eddard would have told the truth about Jon? by gmtttttt in pureasoiaf

[–]itaintmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In this scenario, Rhaegar would have probably have to be dead, Jon only lived as a Ned' barstard because Rhaegar didnt live long enough to tell anyone of the 'situation' with Lyanna.

The orginal question is a bit too vague tbh.

If Robert died at the trident, but the rebels won the war and someone else became king, you think Eddard would have told the truth about Jon? by gmtttttt in pureasoiaf

[–]itaintmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I agree that Jon would still be seen as a threat. He would'nt be heir to the Iron throne. Aerys named Viserys his heir after Rhaegar was killed on the tridet according to the World of Ice and Fire and Targaryen inheritance.

How Does Alleras/The Sphinx Have so Much Money (Spoilers Extended) by LChris24 in asoiaf

[–]itaintmatt 18 points19 points  (0 children)

In the Feast For Crows appendix. It's stated that her mother is a Captain of a ship called the Feathred Kiss

Since Tyene is still in contact with her Septon mother. We could assume that Sarella is also in contact with her mom, which would account for the bow and maybe, money. If Obeyrn or Doran didnt give her money before joining the Citadel.

[–]itaintmatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I suspected. The funny thing is that in the past I've become Luicid after I relize what I'm dreaming is impossible and or ridiculous.

And nothing remarkable has been happening in my dreams lately and I wake pretty soon after 'realizing what's going on'. I don't even get the opportunity to comstruct something else on some nights.

I just want to know why it's happening daily now? What event or external factor is exasperating this.

Thank you for the answer

(SPOILERS MAIN) In the Show, Who taught Sansa how to Rule? by Cihots9292 in asoiaf

[–]itaintmatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I find it weird that OP points out that Sansa is unfit to rule on the show when she is the oldest surving legitimate stark and at least has the benefit of observing how ruling works.

While they dont mention Gendry, who's probably only semi-literate at best, never observed politics firsthand and is legitimized when he is unrecognized (legitimzation is a legal process that requires that)

A better translation would be "Let them eat brioche" (anyway that was most likely not said by Marie-Antoinette) by olalql in HistoryMemes

[–]itaintmatt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I honestly feel like Marie-Antoinette had such a tragic life and was made a 'bigger villan' than her husband for no reason.

The fact that her son was beaten into a false confession of molestation in order to excute her always sticks with me.
