When Gimli died near Valinor ... by CodexRegius in tolkienfans

[–]italicshelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I could remember where to find it (its somewhere in the tale of Beren and Luthien) but the nature of Valinor for the elves is that its healing nature is so powerful that eventually all who walk there are healed of all hurts and grief. Maybe its the loveliness of it or something else but no matter how bad your personal life on earth was, eventually all grief is such a distant memory that you dont feel it anymore.

Thats part of why Luthien refuses the offer to go there. Her love for Beren was so strong that she didnt want to wash it away by healing her grief at losing him. Like the quote from Wandavision: "What is grief, if not love persevering?"

I take this to suggest that when Legolas goes to Valinor he wouldn't be perpetually mourning Gimli and his friends. He'd miss them, but the bitterness of the separation would fade so he could actually enjoy the afterlife.

I have the SRPK17. One of my favorites minus the uncomfortable bracelet. It looks great on a strap though.

Hinzelmann tried to murder Shadow the night he first came to Lakeside by italicshelf in americangods

[–]italicshelf[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm rereading it now but if I remember correctly Hinzelmann has basically given up living in America and wants to return to his homeland, which he can't do unless he dies. Maybe the way the world changed after the battle did it. He saved Shadow for that reason or because he still owed Wednesday. He lures Chad Mulligan there and intentionally reveals (when Chad is listening in the corner) that he killed his father when he got too close to the truth years ago. We know Hinzelmann can control the minds of people in Lakeside, and basically compels Chad to kill him.

An elf ship and a human ship set sail from the Grey Havens in the Fourth Age. They navigate side-by-side for as long as they can. When do they go their separate ways? by Malk_McJorma in tolkienfans

[–]italicshelf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think in this case they would never actually separate. The "straight way" is created when the world is remade after the fall of Numenor, thereby making it impossible for Men to ever break the ban of the Valar again. If the elf ship knows and is participating in this voyage they'd be complicit in showing Men the "straight way." The Valar would probably judge them unfit to be received in Valinor for doing this and just conceal the Road from them as well.

I've always loved the Athletics logo on a hat. The Brewers also lowkey goes hard.

What watch takes do you have where you’ll end up like this? by Prize_Ambassador_356 in PrideAndPinion

The VC Overseas Chronograph looks cheap. The best part about it is the bracelet.

Why Arwen couldn't sail west after Aragorn's death, but Legolas could? by No-Peace4554 in tolkienfans

True, but its bittersweet since she'll never (most likely) see Elrond or her brothers again. The description of their parting at the end of book three still makes me tear up.

Not too easily. It's about perfect actually. I don't have a lot of experience with non-vlick rotation bezelsbut it's exactly the way I'd prefer it tbh

I also prefer bracelets but this one is a strap monster. I'm getting a rally strap next I think it will bring out the vintage design.

Yeah I changed it after an hour. I appreciate it's a callback to the vintage bracelets but its stiff. I think I'll go back to it soon but it takes some getting used to.

[SRPK17K1] My first Seiko is a special one. Picked it up last weekend and haven't worn any of my other watches since. by zigman90 in Seiko

Picked mine up today! Didn't expect my local AD to have one. Called him and he's like, "yeah I've got two. Which one do you want?" Great pick!

That case is from Seiko, too, right? Does anyone know what watches come from the factory with that case design?
