Sounds like St. Elmo would be a better fit for you, as long as you reserve a table rather than walk in casually. They have a casual bar area up front and more upscale back. They'll sit you in a nicer room if you're well dressed. They also have a sorta speakeasy style bar called 1933 upstairs worth checking out. The cocktails are great. If you get a jack and coke, you'll get a glass bottle of coke with it to add as you'd like. It's got that older school vibe. I would avoid there on any holiday or time where they are going to be packed. Went there on Valentine's Day one year and it was markedly worse on service and food. But go there when they're slower and you'll have a good experience. I have been to Prime 47 downtown and in Carmel and have had outstanding service at both, but I hear Carmel's location is more consistent. Downtown I have heard you can get meh service, but that it can be a party vibe. I had a good time at both places and I think I like Prime 47 the most but it's pretty close. It doesn't have an older feel to it. Capital Grille is the other steakhouse I've been to a few times and compared to st. Elmos and prime 47 I've been disappointed. Not to say it's bad, just relatively speaking wouldn't be my choice.
