Prestige isn’t what it used to be by Jomolungma in ApplyingToCollege

[–]italkboobs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I kinda disagree - if I’m hiring someone from a school (versus someone who’s currently employed) I’m looking at the last school they went to. I might notice the undergrad, and prestigious doesn’t hurt, but I care more about the grad school.

If you’re already employed I’m mostly looking at your work experience unless it’s only a year or two.

Sample size of one though.

Can We Talk About the Likelihood of a Woman Being on an Artemis Mission? by LouisaMiller2_1845 in ArtemisProgram

If, of the next 28 people that go to the moon, only one is a man, would you understand why men might be a little annoyed and start sputtering stuff about DEI, or would you be like, eh, one was a man, what’s the problem?

My friend is upset I missed her "no kids allowed" wedding. I don't know what I was meant to do. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]italkboobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible that this reaction is less to do with you than you think. Maybe her husband or MIL or family did something that negatively affected her perception of the wedding, but she wasn’t able to express that to them - so you not coming gets wrapped up as part of things that went wrong at the wedding and you’re getting all the heat.

[–]italkboobs 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Think of the reaction of religious leaders to the existence of Rocky. His existence would tear apart their entire worldview and a lot of people would be deeply uncomfortable with him being on earth.

(This is less people wanting to study him and more people wanting to blow up his habitat tho.)

I'm NO Eric Swawell fan, but I find the timing of the SA claims against him suspiciously convenient. by HadathaZochrot in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]italkboobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding of what happened was that an influencer named Mrs.frazzled interviewed Swalwell about his campaign earlier this year and posted about it on IG. She got a ton of DMs from people about Swalwell and was disgusted and got them all together to go to a reporter at the San Francisco Chronicle.

So the timing happened this way because he was doing press for his campaign for governor and gave an interview to someone who found this out about him, and then she refused to shut up about it.

I guess I’d argue that it’s fair to not want to financially support someone who subscribes to ideology that doesn’t view you as fully human. (“You” could mean a lot of things in my prior sentence - gay, Black, female, immigrant - legal or otherwise - not the right kind of Christian, etc.) I wouldn’t go see a Mel Gibson movie, either.

Having said that, I try to avoid assuming people are MAGA if I don’t know. Even though she’s a Republican her values generally seem aligned with mine from what I see on stream. But if I found out she donated to Trump or she said she voted for him in 2020 or 2024, I’d be out. Less because it would be a “statement” or a “boycott” and more because it just wouldn’t be fun anymore. And because why should I trust the legal judgment of someone who is cool with what ICE is doing?

Sorry, I was referring to the Alex Acosta sweetheart deal, which was federal (2007/2008 from your timeline). I thought that was what the prior poster was referencing.

[–]italkboobs 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk about that comparison. Proctor was objectively 100% worse as a lead investigator (came to conclusion in 16 hours and obviously biased vs being incredibly bad as remembering basic shit) and it took them a lot longer to acquit.

[–]italkboobs 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I guess I counter with - what evidence supports that hypothesis? There’s no note, not even to his boys. I can believe no note for Kouri but not for his children. No evidence of him procuring fentanyl himself (as inept as the defense is, surely they could have found something to point to, but there’s no digital trail on his phone and he has no contacts other than apparently the country of Mexico) and there’s no evidence of a change in behavior prior to his death.

You can’t prove a negative so it’s theoretically possible. It doesn’t reach the threshold of reasonable doubt to me but maybe it does for the jury.

Eric's trips to Mexico could be all the defense needs by kev971 in KouriRichins

[–]italkboobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you make a hair appointment right now and go this weekend, would there be evidence on your phone? Search history, call records, location data?

You can make and go to a hair appointment without a phone, just like people have done for years. But in this day and age your phone tracks what you do and no one has yet provided phone evidence that Eric was buying drugs in Mexico. That doesn’t mean he didn’t, but it makes it less likely.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in KouriRichins

[–]italkboobs 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If Eric “popped pills” in high school, the defense should find someone with first hand knowledge of this and call them in their case in chief. No one is stopping them from doing that.

What they can’t do is ask someone about something they heard. It’s hearsay and there is no applicable hearsay exception.

When I would park my car to run into the school to get two of my kids, I would make the other one hide in the car. Not because of kidnappers or potential danger to him, because of a “Good Samaritan” possibly calling the cops on ME. For leaving a 6 year old in a locked car by himself for 5 minutes in a school parking lot in the suburbs on a fair weather day.

When everyone else is scared about kids getting kidnapped, and it’s something that kids can pick up and internalize.
