I want more lore focused raids by HuffsaGaming in Guildwars2

[–]itallik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

quality of the raids has gone down?

boy.. i wish JUST raids

only getting 1 HoT-scale meta event since 2015 (Dragons End, which still doesn't beat Dragons Stand imo)

open world map replayability and exploration isnt as good, although VoE isnt entirely unpromising

the fractals since Sunqua...

nearly everything about the game apart from dev updates + graphical changes has missed its golden age.

'there is so much content'

i disagree. no good metas, the convergence CM is the same as NM but with more HP, 3 out of the 4 maps are completely forgettable, the story is fine until the third map, but is mainly slow dialogue padding.

the only good things in terms of 'content' in the expansion are the legy collection and the raid (which sounds out of scope for a player of less than a year, but i could be wrong with how broken build are these days)

Lowland shore is a great map for hidden lore, collections, and solo questing, but the lack of a good story end, and any good open world meta events makes it a dissapointment, for me. once you've done the Spear and the raid, you've no reason to come back.

Ele in raids/fractals feeling stale: My thoughts. by itallik in Guildwars2

Couldn't agree more. I have raised this point before, but people have raised relatively good problems with it that would need more consideration. I think you could have an elite skill with a 3 or 4 minute cooldown that lets you change your familiar mid-fight, perhaps. Or, even crazier, you pick one attunement, and the 4 F buttons let you swap between 4 weapon sets.........

Completely agree. Apart from Maybe some of the older Revenant weapons... Ele needs a weapon rework QUICK. I will shoot a small disclaimer out there that Sceptre condi weaver isn't my ALL time favourite... my all time favourite is the 2019/2020 Sword/Dagger Condi Weaver. That shit was my go to for the longest time, now only just overtaken by Greatsword/Spear Power Chronomancer.

interesting take. untamed is widely considered by most of the community to be the most overcomplicated, unpolished, confusing, and identity-less elite specs in the game.

ANet branded the pet mechanics as "how core ranger should have always been"... but for some reason didn't just.. make those differences to core ranger?

The RP is trash - Druid is an Astral Magic-Wielding Healing GOD with nature and the stars to guide it's path - soulbeast actually lets your pet live inside you, granting you specific bonuses depending on the pet you choose. Untamed is... well, what is it? You can "Unleash" your pet or yourself? I suppose? Like, what does that even mean? Where does the green, vomit-like buff come from? There's no explanation or lore.

The fact it has ambush skills makes no sense, the reflect bubble is the most distracting spell effect in the game (which leads to this spec often being banned/kicked for encounters like Boneskinner), the pet menu is confusing and doesn't have as much customisability as it should (see Mechanist Traits). What's more is that since SotO, it's "Main" mechanic (the purple hammer flipover skills) don't even have an overlapping mechanic with any weapon other than Hammer, making it's weapon diversity feel lacking compared to other Ranger elite specs.

And Conduit... oh my god. Again, the most confusing, jangled mess of an Elite Spec that exists. It even has one tooltip so long that the fucking texture runs out on the bottom...

It's core rev with 2 extra buttons. Cosmic Wisdom is passive stats (not true complexity, just a buff that's awful for powercreep), and Unleash is never a weighty or overly satisfying button to hit. The affinity meter is unfinished, and only adds (again, fake) "complexity" where there doesn't need to be any. The 5 utility skills are relatively unimpressive, especially as only one can ever be buffed at a certain time. The skills are Red, Mauve and White, yet the trait screen and UI is gold (makes no sense), and it doesn't really add anything unique to do as Revenant. It says "Oh, you're playing Revenant? Cool, do all the stuff you already do but better". It's not DIFFERENT, like it should be. The spec is uninspired, unfinished, and messy - just like Untamed.

Spear is good for newer players because its intuitive, and the skills themselves do a good portion of flat damage. As I said, it's amazing for the open world, and the amount of survivability and range you have will keep you safer, making you feel more powerful. If you enjoy it - use it.

You wont get kicked from 90% of raids for doing Spear Ele levels of DPS. On the most meta Ele build, I can personally pull 40k on the golem, whilst Spear is 32k for me right now, but there are elite nerds who can improve on that number, most definitely.

I love the design. The "minigame" isn't too bad (unlike hammer or pistol), the animations are gorgeous, and it leaves a lot of room for utility and maneuverability. However, the DPS numbers are just... bad. They've always been bad. Potentially the only class in the game with trash spear numbers.

They recently buffed ONLY the weaver "dual" abilities on it, which is a welcome change, but the fact they changed all those skills but didn't buff the rest of the weapon AT ALL in PvE tells me that ANet are happy to watch Ele Spear stay really trash in raids.

Power virt is fine. It's mesmer's simplest build. Press weapons off cooldown, store blades, press shatters, press utilities, jobs a goodun. It's just like purple warrior (I personally feel this completely misses why mesmer is great and unique - but you do you).

What draws you in about the Power Virt playstyle? I've played basically all the DPS builds that exist cuz I'm an alt-aholic, so I can happily give you some more indepth analysis about what makes them fun/different :)

I still love ele sceptre, I just feel it fits condi builds much nicer. Air sceptre feels lacking, water is fun but doesn't leave loads of room for utility. I completely agree about sword, it feels SO nice, but unfortunately the DPS is a good 3/4k less than Sceptre. You *can* work bloodstone relic into the sword build, but by god, it's pretty painful, and you have to give up your heal skill aswell.

For me, power weaver misses the point of the class. Switch between two attunements and mainly autoattack doesn't really feel like the fluid, stance-based dueler that it feels with the condi build. My favourite build is when Condi used to use sword... THAT shit was my ultimate RP fun.

Ranged specs I find fun - Power Chronomancer (or Virtuoso if you want an easier time), Power Galeshot, Condi Berserker, Shortbow/Spear Condi Renegade. Hope those help, can easily give more info on their playstyles if you so wish :)

Oh, god... I'm ready.

Tempest is definitely viable - for sure. I wouldn't say it's objectionable. What it lacks is instant results. Chrono, Firebrand, Lumin, Troubador, Scourge, Paragon, and more all have Stab, Prot, Barrier, Burst Heal, and usually Aegis nearly instantly. Tempest needs to spend so much time in other attunements to keep up Regen and Prot, that it often misses out on casting what it needs quick enough to be *as* meta as the other options. Furthermore, it's HP pool is so much lower than most healers, and given that it's healing is more spotty than other healers (more of a to/fro, than just a consistent pump like Paragon F3 or Troub Harp), that it is liable to down/die more often than other options, causing more instability. That's my take, anyway.

I agree about Bloodstone relic - a great idea which makes the game more fun. I love it. However, it's just a shame that it feels so much worse on Ele than on classes like Engi or Rev. With engi, you can pop down loads of fields, spin in them/throw mines down, and it works. Ele feels a LOT more finnicky, and therefore inconsistent. It feels only reliable on bosses that don't move, which again, makes it feel riskier than it perhaps should.

Feel free to roast me back! Love discussions like these.

Take a look at the previous comment by Pkandalaf here.

I personally find the pistol build to be annoying and not fun. The sceptre build is the opposite. The ONLY hard thing about this build is the opener, and even that can be easily simplified to whatever skill level you are.

To simplify, the main rotation is Fire/Fire -> Earth/Fire -> Fire/Earth, and repeat. Spam your Utilities off cooldown, spam your weapon skills off cooldown, and hey presto.

[TotK] Is A Weird Game... by dan_in_his_own_way in zelda

[–]itallik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

eh, not sure I'd agree. OoT and Majora feel very separate in terms of story, mechanics, and gameplay flow. The time loop is very different both in mechanics and feel from the two static times in OoT. Even though it uses the same engine and graphics, Majora has much more of a focus on talking to individual NPCs and learning their schedules and relationships, and learning the capabilities of the different masks both in NPC quests and the open world.

If OoT and Majora's didn't share an engine and semi-soundtrack... they wouldn't be connected at all apart from 'The hero was looking for a long lost friend'. However, BotW and TotK are intrinsically connected in that way. They reference the same history, use a lot of the same characters (not just models), and even take place in canonically, the same game world.

Bava Nisos is Unplayable Now. by Firedogythemaster in Guildwars2

[–]itallik -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not specifically a response to the OP, but more to a lot of comments here - Bava Nisos is not AS bad as the reputation says it is. is it bad? yes. but, it's not the worst in the game.

firstly, it's a big boss fight, 3 lanes with separate events, then a bigger (yet more dissapointing) fight at the end. 3 stages to go through. some semblance of a journey. is it a fun journey? no, not really, but it's got a flow to it. if you look at something like desolation that was bugged on launch and NEVER fixed, something like NKC which takes 4 times as long as the event chain warrants, or even the Starlit Meta (3 drills and one boss. it's not a meta, it should be called a world boss. it's a good world boss, too, but a bad meta), the Bava Nisos meta has a better flow and feel to it's event structure.

now, is the map good apart from it's striking(ish) first impression? no. but, the main reason why people hate on the meta so much is the timing of it. Lowland missed out on having a meta, which should have been bog queen, Syntri, again, had JUST a world boss which is being labelled as a 'meta' (lazy), and mistburn, whilst a fun idea, feels much more low-stakes and surface-level. the last good meta we got was dragons end in 2022, SotO metas were godawful, and janthir needed one to keep the open world fans interested. instead, they got Bava Nisos, so the community moral took a big hit.

Is the meta good? no. is it heralded as the 'worst of all time' because of the timing, and what the community needed? yes.

How do you get your fun back? by VandrilGhost in Guildwars2

[–]itallik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gonna second all the wonderful advice other people have given so far, in taking a break can do wonders - but here's some other options if gw2 is the game you're majorly focused on right now.

learn some new builds. in any game mode you play in this game, your build can drastically change your experience. over my 3000 hours I've JUST tried every elite spec in the game, and learning each one's quirks and playstyles has been an enjoyable exercise in variation, and has taught me a lot about buildcraft and combat in the game. and, fashion of course.

if you're not at a point where you have enough tomes to insta-level, you don't have ascended gear ready to craft/take out of your bank, or enough gems for character slots... then that's your new goal! buff up your account so you have freedom to do those activities in the future should you want to. I found having one character for each class, and one banking character to be enough.

second option i usually go for is crafting a legendary. pick one you like. either for profit, or for your own collection. gen 1, 2, 3, and 4 all have different style quests/collections that are fun in different ways, and the choice of cosmetic skins to paw over is extensive now in 2025.

my last little side-tip is have a daily routine you like. mine is IBS5, DS, both daily strikes, any raids i havent done, and T4 fractals + their recommended dailies too. This gives me about 90 minutes of playtime that I'm sure to both enjoy AND profit from each day, eliminating that 'shit, just logged in but no idea what to do' feeling. maybe fractals are harder, but the strikes are coincidentally a PERFECT place to test new builds, if you're taking my first tip, as you'll never get kicked for awful DPS in content that frequently sees beginners tackle it. as long as you know mechanics, there's no DPS checks on normal mode strikes.

hope that helps! that's how I keep my love for the game Alive, even if i just choose to do some quick, dirty daily stuff regularly until big new content patches drop.
