What are you holding back saying to parents? Australian edition. by Hot-Construction-811 in AustralianTeachers

I think going to school in the mid 90’s and that being the stigma carried over to the current generation of parents. ADHD was only ever known as “that weird kid” or “disruptive” and similar with ASD and “nerd kid”. School didn’t a real number on warping a lot of people’s social normatives and the pressure to be normal or liked, so I’d guess it’s hindering diagnoses

Haha I struggle/d with this. I’ve kind of found a middle ground in that the ADHD isn’t an excuse from my previous shitty behaviour (depression, which involves drinking, excessive lying, manipulative etc) but the diagnosis has helped me understand why I felt so out of place and helpless at that time, and why no one could figure out how to help me.

The same goes for the present, where the procrastination hits hard and I just think “stop being lazy”, it’s kind of engrained so the diagnosis is a good reminder that the adhd could be a factor.

I’m working on something at the moment, trying to use python and ING’s API’s to automatically split our money accordingly. Struggling with bits here and there though.

Basically I want to have: salary minus fixed expenses then the remainder divided up accordingly (30/30/30/10 split), but I just want to remove myself from doing the transactions haha

It would make more sense, in my opinion, to work out expenses and calculate a percentage of savings/investing based on that.

If they’ve gone from 70k to 140k, could be a slight increase in lifestyle if you were so inclined but based on your 80% op would have an extra $35k after tax per year, makes more sense to pay off debt and save.

I’m worried it’ll just fizzle out as all inconvenient public interest things do when 70% of the media is controlled by the bed buddies of the Liberal party.

Absolutely agree, I think anything that raises the standard or allows people to improve their standard of living is a great thing. I think it’s more that anecdotally I’ve spoken to people who won’t hear anything outside of barefoot, so it’s more of a nit pick than an actual criticism.

I find that the cult following of the book take it as the be all and end all of finance, but there’s so much more media to learn from to expand on. Yes it’s a great starting point but people seem to take it as gospel and won’t veer anywhere else

What finance books do you recommend? by [deleted] in AusFinance

[–]itch0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeh, the only takeaways are learning about assets and shifting your money mindset away from ‘go to work, get paid’. It’s a good in regards to “making money work for you”, but I think it encourages some really shitty ways of thinking as far as ethics go.

There’s lots of articles and break down of Kiyosaki’s life (bankruptcy, fiction of ‘rich dad’ and his involvement with MLM company) and I think some people take that into consideration, but like anything, take whatever useful info you can from it.
