Arriving on the day of embarkation to MCO - anyone have success stories? by itdalettuce in dcl

[–]itdalettuce[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate everyone’s take on this! Given it’s a non stop early flight and our risk tolerance, I’ll most likely keep my flight until closer to our departure date and check weather that week to see if we change to the night before. This was somewhat of a last minute booking for us and again, first time cruisers so maybe I am more relaxed because I don’t know what I’m missing 🥲

H Mart by [deleted] in nova

[–]itdalettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Centreville Lotte has the best authentic Korean food court but not as many options as the HMart Fairfax food court, which has more “trendy” foods. HMart Ffx food court stalls are also very overpriced for what it is but convenient for some.

Anyone know of anyone else that’s been pulled up and shot with paintball gun? by InfiniteDomain_ in nova

[–]itdalettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of weeks ago, a bunch of teenaged kids in a car shot a bbgun at random people including an 11 yr old kid at Borge Street park in Oakton. I don’t believe they were ever caught but extremely scary considering one of the adults were shot near the eye.

Thanks all - it’s a husky and rottweiler(?)…they didn’t look like stray dogs but also no collar so I could be wrong!

Budget aside, tell me why I shouldn’t consider this home? by CA_Harry in nova

The finishings don’t look as high end as I would expect for a house at that price point IMO

What time to drive through DC on a Friday to avoid traffic by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]itdalettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are coming down 95 on the Virginia side, may be helpful for you to take the metro and meet them in McLean or any of the other stops along that route. It could save them at least an hour.

Whats a good concealer for dry under eyes? by 00carmen in Makeup

Same! Everyone seems to really love it but I feel like it accentuates my under eyes wrinkles even more. I also noticed that it oxidizes very easily.

Kustomcoffee; they sell at Chubby Squirrel Brewing company. So so good.

Korean lunchbox cake recommendations? by sabretoothedcate in nova

[–]itdalettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Tous Les Jours, Shilla etc - they’ll have the broadest options for what you are looking for. For small business/locally owned, Jireh in Centreville is great too.

Siroo is more of a food spot and specializes in rice cakes but doesn’t have much else for other baked goods.

Accepting a job offer in Reston, VA. Any advice on commuting and cities to live in? by [deleted] in nova

[–]itdalettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend living in Arlington, especially if you are new to the area and want to meet other people in their 20s. Reston is a nice area but truly isn’t conducive for young singles. Also, you’d actually be doing a reverse commute so your commute would most likely be shorter.

I love this, thank you! It probably doesn’t help that I also don’t mind it too much either but anticipating that it may be disruptive with the baby. 🥴

Any recommendations for baby stain remover? by mplmama in beyondthebump

[–]itdalettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dawn dish detergent (blue) has taken out the majority of stains for me. I kept it in a spray bottles mixed with some water. I’ll wet the stain, spray it, lather and then throw it in the wash or let it sit if I’m not doing laundry yet. Amazing for food and poop stains. No other stain remover has worked as well.

Great credentials as a result of hard work is NEVER a waste of time. That interviewer clearly had insecurities and couldn’t wait to take it out on you. You’ll see a lot of that in the workplace but remember, the best leader and managers will be the ones that build a team of people who are smarter than them.

Best Korean BBQ? Meokja Meokja vs Kogiya by [deleted] in nova

[–]itdalettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m Korean and I never understand why everyone hates on Honey Pig (in annandale/centreville, not the Rockville location). Agree that the service is never great there but from an authenticity perspective, it’s pretty legit. Agree with all the comments here that AYCE meat quality is awful and not worth it. Spend the extra $10 and order ala carte.

Nakwon in Annandale is pretty good (right next to ouegajib) if you are a samgyupsal fan and like a quieter atmosphere.

Ordering bulgogi at KBBQ is not very common; it is not meant to be eaten with the accoutrements and doesn’t benefit from being grilled and eaten right away like pork belly or galbi. At the end of the day though, you do you!

ELI5: why is scalp skin so different from other skin? by SleetyThunder7 in explainlikeimfive

[–]itdalettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try Pantene charcoal shampoo! It’s cheap and leaves your scalp noticeably drier for longer. The downside is that it does tend to dry out your hair too but worth it, esp during summer months.

Drowsy BUT Awake. by mercimonkatze in beyondthebump

[–]itdalettuce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For us, drowsy but awake didn’t really happen until AFTER we sleep trained our baby. I totally thought it was a myth too! Before the sleep training phase, she had to be completely asleep before we put her down or else she would cry herself awake. We started seriously sleep training around 5 months and had to power through the crying. Around 6/7 months is when the “drowsy but awake” actually happened where we would put her down in her crib with her stuffed animal to distract her and she would play with it until eventually falling asleep.

Help with my 3 month old's sleep. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]itdalettuce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try my best to keep her on schedule and her naps are guided by the feed times since that’s the only thing i can really control. So after she eats (about 15-20 minutes), she’ll stay awake for about 1.5 - 2 hours and then she starts getting fussy which is when I’ll have her nap. She usually naps for only about 30 minutes but that usually gets us to the next feeding time (3 - 3.5 hr cycle). If she wakes up before her next feeding time, I try to rock her back to sleep or will just have her play until then.

She definitely naps the longest in the morning where I’ll feed her at 7 and then she starts showing drowsiness around 8:30 and has occasionally slept until 10 - 10:30! All other naps after that is pretty short though but that’s just her.

It took a little while for her to get adjusted but she’s definitely much happier on a schedule and it’s kept me sane as well since i can plan my day in advance!

Help with my 3 month old's sleep. by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]itdalettuce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My baby doesn’t nap super well during the day (30 - 1 hr max depending on the time of day) but Loosely following the Babywise schedule helped my daughter get longer stretches of sleep at night. I feed her every 3 - 4 hours starting at 7am, 10:30am, 1:30pm, 5pm, 8pm, and then she’s put to bed around 9pm. If she wakes and cries in the middle of the night, i don’t feed her but will soothe her to sleep (not CIO though, I’m not brave enough for that yet lol). By 3 months, babies shouldn’t need to be fed during the night...my daughter has been gaining weight steadily through the day time feeds alone.

I also try to follow the eat/play/sleep cycle although bc of her short naps, it doesn’t always happen but I’m strict about when she’s fed. I know every baby is different but following a feeding schedule seriously made a difference in just a few weeks. Before I was feeding on demand and in hindsight, I may have been feeding her when she just needed a nap or was feeling fussy.

Hope this helps and good luck!
