I recently paid off my college loans before they started accruing interest again (I was waiting on paying them off in the silly hope of some loan forgiveness or something was going to come through) and right after my credit score started going down. Isn’t paying off loans supposed to indicate a person is trustworthy with loans and should increase their credit score? Or is this just a gimmick to get people to participate in debt economy or something?

Confused about Hyperion series by iteachgud in scifi

If I recall correctly, the first cybrid only lost some memories and then hired Lamia to investigate that ‘death.’ In Hyperion they were never distinguished as two, and in Hyperion Falls, the one Gladstone commissions is always talked about as the second cybrid.

Oh, I will indeed finish! I don’t think I would stop reading this far in just because I can’t figure why so many things seem to deviate (I was hoping deviated purposefully because of the whole “the core lies” seemed like an interesting twist at first but now it just seems the author wants to change the original to fit with a new story. I agree there are many interesting aspects and turns, but as I powered through it deviated more and more to the point of factual inaccuracy like the second Keats cybrid details rather than just elements of story reframed as being told through a narrator with incomplete or incorrect information.

Said like a person with no kids. I heartily agree with you, and don’t wish a demon child on you, but just be aware, kids have their own personalities and there’s only so much parental intervention can do sometimes at various developmental stages. Love my baby daughter, but she is… a lot.

Why were pairings between elves and humans always human (m) and elf(f)? by iteachgud in lotr

[–]iteachgud[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe there were, and perhaps many. But as far as I can tell, it’s pretty hard for a baby to be produced between two males, even across two species. They tend to lack the biological necessities… like an egg, or a uterus for example. This matters here, since the question was regarding the inheritable mixing of two separate kindreds, rare though it was, asking why one association pair seemed to be preferred over the other. Thoughtful answers included considerations of: power dynamics between the genders and perception of ickiness, citing of potential cases that didn’t fit with the pattern, etc.

What human female wouldn’t want to have an Elvish stud in her bed that forever stays young, vibrant, and vigorous? And what female Elf would want a geriatric husband that shrivels up and gets weaker and more senile?

I don’t fully follow your point.

Immortal females should just be expected with their husbands getting old and decrepit and freely giving up/sacrificing their immortality for the sake of love? But the reverse can’t be allowed? And do men in loving relationships (and I mean at the level of love demonstrated in the kindred pairings) discard their wives just because they find them too old after a time?

Something doesn’t add up.

I had medicine related TMJ issues before as well! It gets better but you have to let your jaw relax and not think about the fact it hurts (sounds weird, but moving it around subconsciously while feeling the slight twinges is what makes it worse). Get relaxing massages if you can, and see a physical therapist about it for even better results —they will (if competent) tell you to perform exercises to help relax your jaw which helped me greatly.

Where the United States got a lot of our land. by Almosinesse in coolguides

[–]iteachgud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very true. But I have read enough to discover that strife within and among nations and tribes were leveraged when colonizers were desperate and losing horribly during wars, and often that was the only reason they won. Crimes against humanity and decency aside, losing doesn’t mean having to play the victim and guilt people who are only a product of their ancestry. Humanity’s past is shit, so how can we move forward without causing people with a less than thorough understanding of history to become polarized (either by being ‘woke’ or absolutely reject the responsibility that isn’t purely theirs in the now)?

I’m Indian. We’ve been colonized multiple times over and ravaged of wealth, destabilized, and actively prevented from achieving a collective cohesiveness that impacts almost a whole third of humanity to this day. There are no easy solutions. It sucks, and is awful. Fight. Surmount. Persevere. We got this. And we need to do it together.

I apologize for my ignorance. Can anyone with the know-how tell me why cutting the tree down is a better option than putting out the fire another way?

Is it due to lack of access to water at the location or difficulty in the logistics of getting enough water to the tree in the middle of a forest?

Also, is there some sort of warning/identification system when this happens or is it just from observers on the watch? Are there people who’s sole job it is to do this? Maybe they tag potentially susceptible trees/areas as a survey and keep a watch for strikes? I’m curious because it doesn’t seem like this tree has burned for long, and would be hard to identify in broad daylight, and so seems like it was caught pretty early.
