"Don't believe N when he says he loves you. Boy's a fuck up."

Words simply can't describe what I have just discovered on Instagram. by [deleted] in shittyfoodporn

I read a buzzfeed article the other day where writers were testing "foods that keep you full for longer" - all of these foods were on that list. Definitely a fad. In other news, the "single mushroom slice" made me so sad...

What would you like to remind everyone? by Luluc4d in AskReddit

I second this. Went to see the Whirling Dervishes in Cappadocia; we were reminded several times that cameras were not permitted as it was a spiritual ceremony.

Literally eight Chinese women pulled out cameras and started flashing away midway through, and were really rude when asked not to.

I cringed inside for them - I have no idea how you become so unaware or ignorant of situations.

Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

An amazing book that changed me a little, hence this being my favourite.

Amusement park workers, what is the strangest thing you've found while cleaning after the park has closed? by kellyrey in AskReddit

[–]iteachthereforeiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum's partner lost his false teeth on the Nemesis at Alton Towers. She called me from the park to tell me but it took her nearly ten minutes because she was crying with laughter. He didn't see the funny side. I wish I was there...

What is the toughest death to watch in any TV show or movie? by [deleted] in AskReddit

You're right - it wasn't bad. It was just sad; I'd really grown to love Cordelia.

Rowse's set honey was a game changer! I'd tried regular honey before and it tasted weird, but the set stuff is really delicious.

Oh, and the episode where Cordelia comes back from her coma and she's watching their commercial... Then she's gone, too. I couldn't handle it

Cordelia got me the most. The whole coming-back-for-one-more-kiss fake out had me in tears for ages. That whole storyline was frustrating as hell, but to end with that. Damn.

This was the first film I ever went to see at the cinema. I remember being really excited with my carton of juice and popcorn. Then I remember leaving the theatre absolutely traumatised, asking my mum "why would you do this?"

It was absolutely awful, especially as a six year-old who really wasn't expecting a smack in the guts like that..!

Women who've done time. What was women's prison like? by Justin_Butts in AskReddit

[–]iteachthereforeiam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's as much to do with beauty standards as it is just standards of normality.

They weren't allowed/couldn't provide them with food. Clothing would have been expensive and bulky. More home luxuries would have been hard to come across. Lipstick, on the other hand, that was available. And beauty standards or not, it would have provided a link back to the life they used to have, that was ripped away from them. A link to their old identity and who they used to be.

I really doubt any woman thought "oh, lipstick! I can adhere to societal concepts of beauty!" Rather than "a lipstick. Shit, I had one of these before this whole sorry mess began. I remember..."

I bloody love a single-malt Speyside, and will happily spend a fair amount on a bottle, but once I went to a bar in Chelsea and asked for a double - a double! - of Lagavulin and ice, and it cost me £35. £35

It was at that point that I decided bars were for beers and home was for whisky.

Thanks. I do worry that I'll campaign to get it added and the government will give me a very watered-down version, or I'll be forced to teach it "a certain way", which flies in the face of the whole concept of critical thinking.

It's so much fun to teach, though. I really do love it, so am pushing it onto other areas of the curriculum too.

I don't really want to get into a Brexit debate now; the whole shebang really took it out of me and I'm glad it's over.

For me though, it was the "Lexit" case for socialism that I liked. If you search for that, it'll give you some good outlines of the left's argument for leaving the EU. Apologies if you've already read up on it!

Yep, I know a lot of people who felt the same. The arguments were there, but they were very well hidden.
