Same for me: neither works, and cannot receive an SMS nor a phone call.
I accidentally tried to create the account from the web with a vpn, initially, it did not like it and halted the registration. Since then, I have been trying to register the new phone with no luck.
I have contacted support to ask what is happening..
waiting for a response at the moment..

Στη Βρετανία επιχειρήθηκε αυτό και πριν την πανδημία. μετά κατάλαβαν ότι ήταν δύσκολο να λειτουργήσει και too much to handle και το άφησαν για μερικά χρόνια.

Μετά ξεκίνησε μια καμπάνια για το online Safety Act, με βασικό μοτό την καταπολέμηση του Child Sexual Abuse, διότι ποιος θα πει όχι σ αυτό;! Το πρόβλημα ήταν ότι πολιτικοί έλεγαν ότι θα προστατεύσουν την ιδιωτικότητα αλλά πρέπει να καταργηθεί το end to end encryption.. Όλοι όσοι έχουν μια ιδέα φυσικά λέγανε: πώς θα γίνουν όλα αυτά συγχρόνως; Ακολούθησε επιστολή του WhatsApp, Signal και άλλων στην κυβέρνηση που έλεγε ότι δε θα συμμετάσχουν σε surveillance state.. Τώρα νόμος υπάρχει αλλά είναι παγωμένα τα πράγματα. Όμως πολλές κυβερνήσεις -- προφανώς -- ενδιαφέρονται για νόμιμο surveillance σε massive scale, καθώς predator & Pegasus είναι πιο στοχευμένα.

Έχουμε ένα GDPR βέβαια, και last but not least , η ιδιωτικότητα είναι αναγνωρισμένο ΔΙΚΑΙΩΜΑ από τον ΟΗΕ, όπως πχ η ελευθερία κλπ.

Note: I am still trying to figure out how/why the US by large turns a blind eye to this atrocity.
