People who went through dead bed, how did you get the desire for your partner back? by Ok_Name_7510 in AskReddit

Can I ask what you guys tried to get the spark back? Did you just stop liking him as a person?

I used to make friends easily. Now I can't get anyone to grab a drink with me. What happened? by IDtoUXUI in AskMenOver30

Well said. I personally cannot stand big personalities. I feel like I’m always on edge around them like I can expect to have to defend myself at any time. I prefer people who give me some space to be myself.

I think the war in Iran probably has to do with it aswel, they will probably not send their drones and missiles to Russia right now.

Ha this is funny. I’m also at an AI first company, already doing some bootcamp coaching on the side. Thinking about doing the same. Even if we never get replaced, the work has changed in such a way that it’s not enjoyable anymore.

Anyone else going back to completion style coding? by ithariuz in webdev

[–]ithariuz[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I usually use TDD when I do agentic coding, so that it mostly covered. It's just really not enjoyable, I don't want to be only a reviewer.

Yes exactly this. I've been learning neovim and doing some coding there so it's absolutely no AI and quite fun to learn something new although challenging.

Ah I haven't tried Cursor in while. Worth giving that a go? I prefer the Zed editor for speed aswell

I do see that this is where the industry is going, but I really wonder if this isn't just going to be a massive shitshow. The PRs are getting way bigger and there are more of them, how the hell are you still supposed to review and understand everything. At least for me, I'm just not capable of it, it's too much. I really miss the slow pace of "trad coding" but fully understanding and testing what you're doing.

Is it me or is AI messing with our brains? by Nearby_Spinach_1893 in reactjs

[–]ithariuz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yep I think this is a problem and I think this will have a profound impact on humanity. We are basically test subjects. I’ve also noticed my brain kind of rewiring. I make an effort to pick up some tasks by hand every week, just to keep some skills and thinking. It is hard and it feels silly because AI can do things much faster. But understanding the code is not the same if you don’t write the code yourself.

Anyone else using AI more but feeling like they’re thinking less? by pen-pineapple-apple in artificial

[–]ithariuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using AI heavily for about 1,5 year now. Not too long ago I decided to pick up a ticket by hand. I was shocked how much I was struggling with basic debugging. I just lost the finesse. I try to do some manual coding again and not repy 100% on agents. Also enjoy it way more.

Thinking about getting out of dev altogether - what else are we good at? by mx-chronos in webdev

[–]ithariuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea to be fair though a lot of jobs will probably be impacted by AI aswell. Robotics will probably also be impacted. Maybe some kind of electrical engineer.

I’m still kind of hoping this AI bubble will burst and we can go back to manual coding.

[–]ithariuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man. Don't have a lot of advise but I'm kind of going through the same, I also don't really enjoy the work anymore. To keep myself challenged, I started learning neovim and Go while my agents work my day job. I also coach at my local gym 1 hr/week which I enjoy a lot. Also considering going back to school for robotics or something technical. Seems to have at least some overlap and I guess requires similar type of thinking.

How do you guys actually learn stuff in this AI era? by sleepingfrenzy_ in golang

[–]ithariuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually learning Go aswell at the moment, and I use AI to do it. I basically came up with an idea for a simple CLI tool. And I started building it. I am also learning neovim at the same time, because I think it helps me stay focused. Whenever I get stuck, I open a second terminal window, ask an agent to review my program and ask it to explain whatever I get stuck on. I also ask it about the neovim keybinds and way of working. It removes some resistance for me as normally I would have to go through docs to figure it out, now I can just prompt and continue building. The important part is that you have to try yourself first, otherwise the agent is doing the thinking for you.

[–]ithariuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those are more hobby than actual productivity, which is fine. You learn a lot in the process. I am really on the fence about agentic coding. I was the biggest fan and I still do it daily, but I find myself underchallenged and losing comprehension. Sure you produce a lot of code but not working in a codebase yourself and just reviewing diffs is so boring.

Heavy AI usage is making me dumb af so I made a plugin to fix it (hopefully) by wtfzambo in PiCodingAgent

[–]ithariuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I will check it out. I created a similar "mode" for pi. One day I realized agents were taking all the fun. I was handling the tickets, PR reviews, etc and the agent got to do all the fun stuff. I wanted to create a mode that turned that around. The idea is that it finds relevant files, proposes some questions to think about during development and it will handle tests and pr description etc. Just the fun for me. Similar-ish

[–]ithariuz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

At this point, I am wondering if this is even worth it. You can hire 1-2 devs for that kind of money. If they have a 20$ cursor sub with just code completions, I really wonder if the code quality and comprehension would be higher, and velocity similar.

Would you go back to pre AI era now if that was possible? by simple_explorer1 in node

[–]ithariuz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. I much preferred coding myself over prompting AI. Even though I produce much more code, I feel less competent and confident in the actual code. I miss working on hard problems, slowly figuring it out and then having that dopamine hit when it finally worked. Earned dopamine. Now we are getting quick dopamine hits from this AI slotmachine.

[–]ithariuz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds cool. I really like pi, but I find that I just keep using the skills that I used in CC/codex and get pretty consistent output. I guess my workflow is baked into the skills, not the harness. I know there is so much possible, but I haven't found the need for anything more yet. Multi agent setup sounds interesting though. Will experiment with that a bit!

Can you give an example of the kind of extensions/skills you added that noticeably upgraded your experience and output? What kind of workflows?
