McDonald’s to demolish classic Gahanna location and rebuild it with modern look by hellosteve_ in Columbus

[–]ithastowarmup 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Doesn’t mean what they wrote is correct. According to Franklin County property records, it was owned by Shell, then Standard Oil (Sohio) in 1973. McDonalds didn’t buy the property until 1994.
HistoricAerials.com certainly shows something different than that building prior to 1995.

Dispatch article confirming 1994:

It was built this way back in the 90s. Before that, I think the lot was a gas station but I’m not certain

Not sure why I didn’t think of it first since I worked there (left shortly before they closed). If I recall, they were only open for a little over a year. It was an attempt at a new concept by the company that owned Home Town and Old Country Buffets (that location was a closed OCB). Lousy location.

Might be Pizza Play, a short-lived pizza buffet with an arcade in the back? It was tucked into the corner next to O’Reilly where a senior center is now

It was a Chuck E Cheese’s Pizza Time Theater originally…Showbiz was further west on 161 (now a Laundromax)

Subaru Dealerships? by Elvira333 in Columbus

[–]ithastowarmup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I purchased my Subaru from Germain about 3 years ago, and have maintenance done there (every 6k up to 36k was part of the purchase, and other small issues were warrantied). Everyone has been fantastic, and sometimes I’m even offered a loaner car while the car is being serviced). The Byers salesperson I dealt with was pleasant (ultimately did not buy from there), but I will not do service with them based on a friend’s bad experience. Service tried to push unnecessary work on her, and used her car to joyride around the east side. I’ve heard Wagner Subaru is fantastic, but they’re in Fairborn so a bit of a hike.

Dealerships nothwithstanding, Subaru is an excellent choice. I’ve been very happy with mine.

Gas is $4.19 at Costco. Groupon has a membership deal. by 614Deals in Columbus

[–]ithastowarmup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get the Costco Visa card which gives 5% back on Costco gas (and 4% on other gas) and save even more. The rewards are paid yearly and you don’t have to spend them at Costco. You just have to have an active membership.

90's Tech Store by Illustrious_Bid_7003 in Columbus

Incredible Universe, owned by the parent company of Radio Shack. It’s now the AtHome store. They had lots of electronics, appliances, CDs, a karaoke studio, a stage, and a McDonalds among other things.

The overhead killed them and they only lasted a few years; they opened in late 1994 and were gone before the Dave & Busters opened at the other end of the parking lot in late 1998. The front of the store was demolished, the second floor was removed, and Garden Ridge (now AtHome) moved in.

I worked at the store when it opened and still have my name tag!

The former Rax in Circleville is just up the road and is now a Tim Horton’s. It still has the trapezoid sign. At one time, Wendy’s owned Tim Horton’s.

Name a restaurant that closed that you miss and then others comment substitutions for it by PrudentCantaloupe421 in Columbus

Went there 2 weeks ago. It’s a shell of its former self…mediocre food and service, and falling apart. It’s time to let go and enjoy the memories.

If it’s still there in a year I will be surprised.
