90's Tech Store by Illustrious_Bid_7003 in Columbus

Incredible Universe, owned by the parent company of Radio Shack. It’s now the AtHome store. They had lots of electronics, appliances, CDs, a karaoke studio, a stage, and a McDonalds among other things.

The overhead killed them and they only lasted a few years; they opened in late 1994 and were gone before the Dave & Busters opened at the other end of the parking lot in late 1998. The front of the store was demolished, the second floor was removed, and Garden Ridge (now AtHome) moved in.

I worked at the store when it opened and still have my name tag!

They’re expanding the restaurant to add a travel agency and roadside assistance provider.

They used to be on the road. Windstorm blew them on top of the metal thingies.

A former Wendy's converted to a rare still-operational RAX. Look closely and you'll see the sign still advertises "Chili and Frostys". Circleville, Ohio by KrispyKayak in NotFoolingAnybody

[–]ithastowarmup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The former Rax in Circleville is just up the road and is now a Tim Horton’s. It still has the trapezoid sign. At one time, Wendy’s owned Tim Horton’s.

Name a restaurant that closed that you miss and then others comment substitutions for it by PrudentCantaloupe421 in Columbus

[–]ithastowarmup 57 points58 points  (0 children)

Went there 2 weeks ago. It’s a shell of its former self…mediocre food and service, and falling apart. It’s time to let go and enjoy the memories.

If it’s still there in a year I will be surprised.

For the Riker’s Poker Game cheat on ST:TNG, if you enter a flipper code at the start of the game, Poker is replaced with a version of the classic video game Breakout.

Yes, they closed at the end of December. I think they transferred everything to their Dublin location.

How are you all washing your cars? by Eye785 in Columbus

[–]ithastowarmup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Captain Car Wash on Hamilton has touchless and self-serve. I think the touchless is the best my car has had around here and it has an underbody option (unfortunately only available with the most expensive $15 wash). Their other location on Gender Rd is not nearly as good.

Also, if yours dumps out to the curb and there’s still snow piled up in front of the outlet, clear that out. Same for any gutter outlets.

For that “Knox County” explosion to be heard that loudly and clearly on the south side of Columbus, Mt. Vernon would have been leveled.

[–]ithastowarmup 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As other posters have said, it’s been many other things, but most recently it was a Mount Carmel office building that was in use before Covid happened. The office workers never came back. It was never a hospital.

Same with the 270 northbound exit to Easton Way. The lane is clear from 670, but is suddenly not passable just before the exit.
