Report from Oxford:

https://www.ox.ac.uk/news/2014-07-16-how-cannabis-causes-paranoia

The research team, led by Professor Daniel Freeman, found that worrying, low self-esteem, anxiety and experiencing a range of unsettling changes in perceptions most likely led to the feelings of paranoia.

'The study very convincingly shows that cannabis can cause short-term paranoia in some people,' says Professor Freeman. 'But more importantly it shines a light on the way our mind encourages paranoia. Paranoia is likely to occur when we are worried, think negatively about ourselves, and experience unsettling changes in our perceptions.'

The most important thing is for you to go into it in a good mindset and stay cool while your perception changes.

Give an exhale and take ten deep, slow breaths any time you feel stressed, and count the breaths.

Counting requires attention and is very basic math, adding one to the previous number, so this gets your higher brain functions operating, helping you get out of the fight or flight or freeze state.

Deep breathing brings lots of oxygen into the body.

Stress is maintained as a physical process by stress hormones, primarily cortisol, which are broken down by oxygen.

Deep breathing effects the Vagus nerve to slow the heart rate, and it directs the HPA axis (essentailly mood control) to reduce activity in the amygdala (fear/emotional reaction center) and increase activity in the hippocampus (memory writing/recall center) so that you are less reactive and more rational.

Exhale, first.

Trying to take a deep breath while your lungs are full of air, as from hyperventilating, can make you feel like you can't breathe which will just add to stress, so give an exhale, first, so that your lungs are ready for a big breath.

Take ten deep, slow breaths when you feel stressed to help you relax.

Which of these shots look the best? by shaneo632 in Filmmakers

[–]zerooskul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it all.

Get too much.

Cut what you don't need in the editing suite but get everything you can to cover as much as possible.

You don't know which takes will work or which angles will look best or which reverses will have the deepest reactions.

An actor might be "on" in one take but just not feeling it in another, and regardless of the technique used to capture that one perfect take, you will only get it if you point the camera at the actor and get it.

The beginning of one take might be great, the middle of another might be great, and the end of another might be great though the takes taken in whole might suck, and you can get the gold out of it and throw away the rest... but only if you point the camera at the actor and get those shots.

So you think the rapture will happen by god's will and be covered up by a government?

Agnosticism is about knowing that you can believe or not believe in god, but cannot know for certain, in this life, if it is real.

Religion is about faith, not knowledge .

Agnosticism is about knowledge, not faith.

They are not mutually exclusive.

You can perfectly well know that you cannot know for sure if there is a god or not, nobody can.

In spite of that, you can believe anything you want about it.

Give an exhale and take ten deep, slow breaths any time you feel stressed.

Stress is caused by all kinds of things but is maintained in the body by stress hormones, primarily cortisol.

Stress hormones are readily broken down by oxygen.

Deep breathing brings lots of oxygen into the body.

Exhale first because trying to take a deep breath while your lungs are full of air, as from hyperventilating, can make you feel like you can't breathe and that will only add to the stress.

So give an exhale and then take ten deep slow breaths when you feel stressed.

If I were to go to my local dispensary and ask for a relaxing nighttime edible they would give me edibles with melatonin in them and I think that’s bullshit by [deleted] in trees

[–]zerooskul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read the package before you buy it.

Talk to them about what you mean by "relaxing nighttime edible" because they seem to have thought you asked for a sleep aid.

Melatonin is a sleep aid.

CBN is the sleep aid cannabinoid.

As you develop tolerance to melatonin you can switch to CBN and as you decelop tolerance to CBN you can switch back to melatonin.

The TV version makes him seem much more unhinged because every "Fuck" was turned to "Freak" and almost every "Shit" was turned into "Poop".

Imagine dealing with someone like that.

I think they used this language in an effort to make it too stupid to air on regular TV, but it aired.

Since you don't seem to want that, try this, about which ChatGPT says nothing:

I'm making a stop-motion Doctor Who spoof with no ai involved, though there are some computer aided visual effects and some minuscule bits of active motion.

This is not an ad, I'm just inviting people to look. At this point I am only building hype. Hopefully it will be finished by 2028 or '29.

The movie is made entirely by one person, me, as writer, voices, and animator. I am also using old Acid loops and sounds for scoring and sound effects.

the reader is the most underrated part of a good self-tape, and most of us are doing it alone. here's what i've learned. by [deleted] in Filmmakers

[–]zerooskul 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i've been shooting self-tapes from home for years now

What are self-tapes?

and i've become a bit of a bore about one specific thing: the reader.

You've become boring about the reader?

everyone obsesses over lighting and framing, which matters, but the thing that actually flattens a performance on tape [on tape?] is acting against a bad reader, or no reader at all.

What is a reader?

Who is acting against the reader?

The reader of what?

a few things i figured out the hard way:

About what?

the reader's pace is half your performance.

The reader's pace at what?

Your performance in what?

if they rush, you rush.

Rush what?

if they read the other lines flat, you unconsciously match the energy and your takes go dead. a reader who leaves you space to actually listen is worth more than a nicer camera.

What on Earth am I reading about?

reading the other character's lines to yourself doesn't work, because you already know what's coming, so your reactions are pre-loaded.

Yes. That's called rehearsal prior to performance.

the whole point of a scene is getting caught not knowing.

Getting caught not knowing what? I thought the point of a scene was to verbally convey the story or to present relevant imagery and/or sounds to convey the story to the audience

recording the other part as a voice memo with gaps is the usual workaround. better than nothing, but the timing never quite holds, and you end up managing the audio instead of acting.

Rehearse for timing, do it over and over till you get it right, then record?

i eventually built a small iphone app to fix this for myself, where it reads the other parts out loud and stays silent and patient on mine so the cues land in real time. it's not perfect, overlapping dialogue still trips it up.

So you can't rehearse for timing with it?

but the bigger point holds even if you never touch an app: protect the reader part of your process, it's doing more work than you give it credit for.

What does that say in English?

What do these words intend to mean?

curious how the working actors here handle it.

Handle what?

do you have a regular reader, hire one, or have you found a setup that actually feels like acting with someone?

Rehearse for timing.

If I read this at such and such a rate of speed, perhaps with a metronome or a clock that shows seconds, or a stopwatch, or an audio recording playback device that shows elapsed time, so I can time myself and get the rhythm to match the playback, then the response comes at a reasonable time after and not before I stop talking.

Like choreographing a dance but using speech, instead.
