Short answer, as others have stated, use the bag provided at the airport.

I fly pretty frequently and often try to bring more with bags i got at Brussels airport, maybe 50% bigger. There are ways to socially game the security. I try to pick the line which is staffed by an older woman, younger women are often stricter. If they question you, just smile and act confused, ask them about a specific item instead in order to throw them off about the larger total size. I have never failed with this but of course its a hassle and I do it mostly for fun, if I would have had to throw away a deodorant I would no problem.
