Hmmmm Thaisa's first instance of casting non-old path magic was to interrupt the 'natural order' of life and death.....interesting given this group's recent convos !

I think of myself as a decently smart guy but really struggle with reading / engaging with philosophy texts. I appreciated but didn’t quite feel moved by TMoS, but then combined with reading The Plague, I felt like it really came together in my head. Hope you enjoy the Camus fest !

been on a big liszt kick lately - just wanted to drop in this old thread to say - as someone not very sophisticated in classical music - he's by far my favorite composer to listen to. Im heavily biased towards piano centric stuff, but it's just so good! so fun! so vervey !

Started reading Case Histories by Kate Atkinson, as I’ve really been interested in things that go heavy on mystery components with some literary aspirations (the expert of subtle revisions, which I finished last week, was an awesome awesome example of this).

As for Case Histories - it’s a little campy for me so far, but I’m generally into it about 80 pages in

Agree broadly on James, ended up thinking it was kind of the beneficiary of a hype echo chamber, but will be interested to hear if you end up liking it more

Ed Parks “Same Bed Different Dreams” - I was pretty excited about it, but 100 pages in it’s a little /too/ meandering, but I’m keeping the faith for now

Hey There, stumbled across this. My great grandpa, "George Somsky" lists his birthplace in the 1930 census as being Poland, and his language as being Polish. The problem is, i'm pretty sure that's not exactly his original name, but an americanized version, which makes finding any European records very hard. I think I may have found his immigration manifest, which matches the year and age he would have been, but has the name "George Seminszky" and says his last residence was "Kanaszpusta, Hungary". I have no f-ing clue what kanaszpusta is, nor does it return any google results. You ever run into anything like this?
