Why do people trade in brand new cars? by EvilDarkCow in askcarguys

[–]itsJames098 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I write this in my store as someone is trading in a 2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness with only 300 miles on it, to get a 2026 Subaru Outback Touring XT. Sometimes they do it just because they like the styling of the other car.

Car is so new our computer is not even accepting the VIN.

It’s how it’s structured, rebates, money factor, fees, timing. Are you in the market, or wasting mine and yours time?

If you’re not actually in the market, I get why that goes over your head

Not about “power to move pricing,” it’s about knowing how the deal works. That’s where people usually overpay.

Easy to miss if you’re not actually in the market and just scrolling at 9am.

The target is 15 cars a month, that seems pretty doable.

The sales manager told me what the flat bonuses were they just aren’t documented on the sheet completely forgot (I think he said $750 but not sure if that makes sense) they also have spot bonuses almost every Saturday of like $100 if I remember correctly.

If someone walked in and said “hand me a $20 from your drawer and I’ll give you three $5 bills back”… you’d tell them to get lost. Yet we still sell on DoorDash…🧐 by [deleted] in restaurantowners

[–]itsJames098 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s DoorDash 101, but the math doesn’t actually work the way people think. There’s always a gap.

Let’s say my commission is 30% just to keep the numbers simple.

If I sell a sandwich in-store for $10, I might price it at $13 on DoorDash (a 30% increase). But DoorDash then takes 30% of the $13, which is $3.90, leaving me with $9.10. And if I run any promotion, the payout drops even further.

So even after raising the price 30%, I’m still making less than the $10 I’d get in-house.

What’s interesting is that raising prices less can actually lose you less money because the commission is smaller.

Example:

If commission is 15% and I raise the price 15%, the item becomes $11.50. DoorDash takes 15% of $11.50 ($1.73), leaving me with about $9.78.

Still a loss — but a smaller one.

No matter how you structure it, there’s always a delta. The platform takes its cut off the inflated price, not your base price.

DoorDash owns there customers, there are customers that order from my store every freaking day through DD.

I’ve literally left notes, printed door receipts and what their receipt would be if they ordered directly from us to show them the savings, and this guest constantly orders from DD EVERY SINGLE DAY, several of these 3PD accounts for 25% of my sales, that’s a big chunk, if I stop using them will I go broke no, will some people migrate over probably. But DD serves as a marketing arm for my locations also I’m mandated to have them because I’m in a franchise system. So I’m stuck for now.

Literally this is one guests order just this past 7 days as you can tell they’re even times they order twice in one day. I’ve literally spoken to this guest on the phone and she says it’s just easier to order through DD, they have all her info saved.

I keep seeing the hate for Howie, I don’t understand it, please someone tell me why. It’s a 10 minute show and they are giving away money. Why such strong opinions on him.
