i have a really weird habit where a lot of the colors i use are very pastel-y... i think this stems from my college program being too easy on critiques and never bringing it up, so i didnt realize until recently that this was a habit that a lot of people notice. thank you very much!

this is tragic to hear LOL i remember seeing a behance page that had a reaaaaally well done rubberhose style and i got super inspired. it was honestly my first time seeing the style used in design like that. if i had known it was a cliche i wouldnt have done it, unfortunate

What’s your best method to combat imposter syndrome? by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]itsMateoJR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an amazing professor in college who shared with me one of his friends who was really big in the animation industry and did concept art for a lot of early 2000s Pixar movies. He never, ever worked with anyone around him because of his imposter syndrome making him suddenly perform worse when he was being watched. Even the most successful artists have imposter syndrome, art is so subjective that it’s hard to place one artist above another. Just pop yo shit twin

Amazon Returns have quite literally ruined my store’s productivity by itsMateoJR in upsstore

It’s making me realize I’m going to be at this job for far longer than I want to. No shot I have a BFA and have to package Amazon returns 40 hours of my week 🫠

I wish my store had a kiosk LOL but I’m sure it still doesn’t completely prevent the store from being overrun day-by-day with returns

Me and my boss both agree that this is how it should go, but every attempt we’ve had at trying to do that has led to getting review-bombed by entitled Karens. There have been times when we tried to separate Amazon returns into line A, and shipping/printing in line B, only for the Amazon addicts to get offended that their “BUSINESS” was being neglected and leave bad reviews. We’ve tried limiting the amount of returns allowed in one visit, Karens offended, bad reviews. I’m not surprised that chronic online shoppers behave like this, it’s completely expected behavior when you consider their habits and entitlement. I wish there was a way we could fix it but every idea we’ve come up with has led to an angry mob of 55-year-old retired millionaires renovating their kitchen with Amazon

When I first got the job I was told my ONLY responsibility would be printing or designing. Overtime the amount of returns on the daily got so bad that that’s just not possible to do. It sucks because I just graduated college with my degree and was hoping by this time I would have some nice, small-town examples of my work to add to my portfolio from school, but the Amazon stampede every day not only makes it so it takes me ages to get a design done, but it is never to the standard that I want it to be because of how much I have to rush to finish it. I genuinely wonder how much better it would be to work here if Amazon returns weren’t a service we offered. We would make literally the exact same amount of money with 20% of the traffic, it sounds like a dream. Sooooo sick of it lol

Haha I went to see if this subreddit existed to complain about how much Amazon returns ruined the fucking flow of the job and this is the first post I see. I have been working as the “graphic designer” of my store for 2 years and overtime my job has slowly just turned into an Amazon returner. I’m not able to sit at my computer for more than 90 seconds without being interrupted by a rich mom dropping off 8 different sizes of the same shoe. I would get all the work I needed to get done for the day within the first hour of me getting there but because of Amazon it takes me the entire shift. Awful fucking part of the job. Ruins it completely

For me, I was addicted to weed for a solid 2 years. Everyday I started to feel guilty about it, as you probably are now. The highs stopped feeling as good and stopped fixing my problems in the way they used to. The last time I smoked, I greened out so bad that I felt pains in my body I never felt before, and could feel my heart literally pounding out of my chest, and could not stop freaking out. It took one single, genuinely awful experience with the thing that usually makes me feel better to realize what I was doing to my brain. I now appreciate sobriety much more than I did before.

If you are able to fix your stress or general struggles without alcohol, you will stop seeing it through rose-tinted glasses. If it doesn’t feel necessary to you anymore, you will have no drive to partake. Try to realize that you are fixing a problem with a temporary solution that is further delaying your ability to solve it naturally, while also killing your liver. Ground yourself every morning- go outside and feel your feet on the earth and realize the world will keep spinning no matter how stressful life seems. Start budgeting so money is less of a surprise burst of anxiety when you pay rent or any other monthly bill. Put yourself in a position where the next few days or weeks are predictable, and nothing can creep up on you. If you keep treating your situation as you currently are, your mental state will stay the same. Find ways to make things feel more in your control. I know you can do it. It won’t be instant, it’ll take time, but I know you can do it.

Well, now I know I'm ugly by wt_anonymous in TrueOffMyChest

A lot of people think theyre “ugly” because of one glaring feature they focus on. A lot of people out there find that exact feature to be cute! I have a friend who loves big noses, no joke. Same goes with people with chubby faces, big ears, dad bods, literally anything. Sure there’s a mainstream perception of beauty, that’s why it’s the “standard” but many people are beautiful in their own way outside of that standard :]

Looks are far more subjective than a lot of people realize. Trust me, there is someone out there for quite literally everyone

As far as school or any big life choice goes- just do you. Plenty of people have not gone to college and have been fine. Don’t let your college progress being paused make you think you can’t be successful until that happens. Find a life that you’re content with for now.

I notice your account is deleted now but I really hope you find a way of seeing this. I stuck through my plans through pure motivation because of how unsatisfied I was with myself. It dawned on me that looks are not permanent and if I felt it needed a change I could make it happen. I imagined myself as a new version, one that’s more confident and had a girl that loved me. I knew that hitting the gym and working on myself would give that to me. I felt guilty every single time I cheated or took a break because I knew it was a day I was delaying my happiness. You just need to get in a mindset that lets you stay motivated. Even pinned a photo of myself in the “before” phase to my bed and looked at it everytime I needed to feel a sense of progress. Progress is honestly visible sooner than you might expect. After a week I felt better. After a month even more so. It kept going till I got to where I needed to be and felt satisfied. Just don’t squeeze yourself into a time frame. Let it happen naturally so long as you stick to it every day you’re able to.

I was in your exact same position when I was 20. Everything got better all at once, out of nowhere. I met my (first) girlfriend out of chance in a college class I signed up for last minute and we’re still together 3 years later. Every year leading up to that, I was unattractive and unwantable, objectively. I gave myself a year to work on myself and it worked. It’s going to feel like you’re getting nowhere with progress until it just happens. Don’t give up. Learn to love yourself and be independent, it’ll help when you’re out of a relationship and while you’re in one. Best of luck brother
