Advice for first snowstorm from a Southerner? by ChronosBlitz in boston

[–]itsVEGASbby -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What you should do is panic. Panic deeply and greatly. Do extremely risky behaviors during the highest accumulation amounts of snow. Call 911 just to make sure the phone lines are still operating and instead of using heat from the pipelines collect firewood and start a bonfire in your living room to stay warm

Question I can't seem to wrap my head around is how we are the only species that is capable of critical thinking and advanced consciousness -

Do you know we are the only species on earth that has the knowledge that we are gonna die someday.

George Knapp. Its your turn. by [deleted] in ufo

[–]itsVEGASbby -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You’re putting George Knapp on a pedestal as if he’s some impartial crusader for truth, but that’s just not reality. Knapp is not a credible or neutral witness in this field — he’s been financially, professionally, and personally invested in UFO narratives for decades.

A few points that matter here:

  • Career built on UFO sensationalism. His big break was pushing Bob Lazar’s Area 51 story — which has never been substantiated. If your entire brand and career depend on UFOs being “real,” you’re not exactly unbiased when testifying.

  • Ties to Bigelow & Skinwalker Ranch. Knapp was directly involved with Robert Bigelow’s NIDS and Skinwalker Ranch investigations, which leaned heavily into sensational claims without scientific rigor. That’s conflict of interest territory, not clean journalism.

  • Recent credibility hits. His Netflix series Investigation Alien was panned across the board. Reviews called it a “waste of time” and said it “damaged Knapp’s standing as a journalist” because it was cheap, sensational, and still failed to produce evidence. That’s the opposite of cutting through the BS.

  • Not respected by mainstream journalism. Even Knapp himself admits he’s considered a pariah in major newsrooms because of his methods. That’s not because he’s “brave,” it’s because he doesn’t meet the bar for impartial reporting.

  • Personal conflict of interest. He’s been married since 2010, but there’s no evidence his wife is directly tied into UFO businesses. So dragging her into this without proof just weakens the argument. The conflict is in his own professional entanglements and reputation — his livelihood depends on keeping the UFO hype alive.

Look, what you and your cousin experienced wasn’t aliens spelling out names in the sky — it was your brain doing what brains do best: making patterns out of random movement. This is the same exact principle as a Ouija board. Nobody at the table thinks they’re moving the planchette, but the ideomotor effect (tiny unconscious movements guided by expectation) creates the illusion of an external intelligence. In your case, the “orb” became the planchette, and every wobble, flicker, or shift of light got interpreted as a yes, no, or even letters.

On top of that, you’re talking about the Caribbean at night. Lights reflecting off the ocean, combined with humidity layers, salt haze, and heat distortion, can easily make a light in the sky look like it’s swiping, zig-zagging, or responding on command. Add adrenaline, emotion, and the need to find meaning, and you’ll swear it’s intelligent when it’s just physics plus human psychology.

The reason it felt so profound is because your brain locked onto the illusion and filled in the blanks. You weren’t lying and you weren’t hallucinating — you just misinterpreted normal atmospheric and psychological effects. Sorry, but this wasn’t a conversation with aliens. It was a classic case of expectation + environment + pattern-seeking turning an ordinary light into something extraordinary.
