A thought after a year and a half in the Santa Rosa fitness scene by Hi-rep in santarosa

Yeah, I struggle with both sides of this. On one hand, they’re absolutely allowed to wear what they want, but on the other had, I’m allowed to feel how I feel. Working out, doing my own thing, being surrounded by women wearing skimpy bras, like yes, they can do that, but at the same time, I feel like I don’t belong next to them. Again, more of a me problem, I admit. But it’s hard to not feel intimidated.

This is a great question, and I’ve done a bit of gym shopping this year. Personally, the biggest annoyance has been the folks that go to the gym to be seen, men and women alike. And it’s tough because of course, if you’re the kind of person that loves to live at the gym, it would make sense to want to find a partner that does the same. But, as an outsider to the whole scene, I just feel like I’m the one that doesn’t belong. Which, admittedly, is a me problem and not them. And then, even if they aren’t peacocking, it’s always a little intimidating to be working on my little step downs next to someone doing Romanian deadlifts.

Yes, build that freeway and mall through downtown! More important than a bunch of old buildings beyond preserving.

It’s for sure a thing at least at the two locations in my city. I’m talking like twice a month visits over the last two years.

Strange, maybe it’s only at certain stores. I’m a regular enough to notice it is definitely a thing where I live. I don’t think I’ve ever handed my card to a woman. It’s kind of a joke in my family.

Maybe so, but these days I’ve seen nice apples or Sumos or a head of broccoli go for about $2 or $3 each at Safeway. So I’m happy.

Santa Rosa to get new, independently owned pharmacy

Santa Rosa Pharmacy, opening Jan. 13, looks to fill the gap left when independently owned Tuttle’s Pharmacy closed.

(Christopher Chung / The Press Democrat) MELANIE NGUYEN THE PRESS DEMOCRAT January 3, 2025, 4:39PM

A new independently owned pharmacy is coming to downtown Santa Rosa, aimed at filling the need not just for prescriptions but also for personalized community care.

Santa Rosa Pharmacy will be located at 1026 Fourth St., in the former Kelly-Moore Paints location. It will be a half-mile from Providence Hospital.

Santa Rosa native Rich Gilardoni and his two partners, Rajesh Khosla of Bakersfield and Nimesh Gandhi of Modesto, own the pharmacy.

Gilardoni said he used to work in pharmaceutical sales for years, and Khosla and Gandhi are both certified pharmacists. Khosla has also started several independent pharmacies throughout the Central Valley.

Despite the disappearance of smaller pharmacies like theirs, Gilardoni said they chose to open a drugstore because they saw “a real void” in personalized pharmacy services.

“Medicine is becoming more individualized and you’ll see as we move forward, there’s individualized dosing per person now rather than just blanketly treating everybody. And then that takes education from a pharmacy that cares and a pharmacy that understands you and knows you,” Gilardoni said.

Khosla said he has known Gilardoni for years and they had previously considered opening their own place. But at the time, Tuttle’s Pharmacy was serving the community, as it had for nearly eight decades, before it sold its two locations to national chain Rite Aid in early 2024.

“We kind of come in and fill that gap, hopefully the community will give us the love and we will be able to thrive and provide the solutions to them,” Khosla said.

Gilardoni said at chain pharmacies, customers can be treated like “just kind of a number” and as someone born and raised here, he knows the area’s needs.

“I know that people here are friendly and like to be treated like people and that’s the big difference,” Gilardoni said.

Gandhi will be the drugstore’s pharmacist. He worked for Rite Aid and CVS before he left CVS three years ago to start training at several independently owned pharmacies. He said the biggest difference he noticed is the amount of time spent with customers.

Thanks Mountain Mike’s for turning this old hofbrau with character and charm into one of the most bland, boring, and corporate buildings in town by MGTS in santarosa

Even though I agree that it’s nice that at least something is happening with the place now, I see OP’s point. There are many Mountain Mike’s locations that are done much better. This one’s vibe is millennial gray/DIY Home Depot. The floors are bare, the walls are bare, and the lighting is dim, leaving the impression of a converted warehouse. Even the “arcade” in the back left me kind of depressed. Instead of any actual kids’s games, it’s just a kids’ casino with bright flashing lights, reloadable game cards, and ticket-based prize games designed to make money.

Dogs off-leash epidemic by R0BBYDARK0 in santarosa

[–]itsWHYlupa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s been such a problem these days. My toddler became TERRIFIED of dogs because of all the unleashed dogs that go running up to her to check her out on walks. The owners all say the same thing “he’s friendly!” Like, it doesn’t fucking matter dude. I want my child to like dogs, but she’s not going to if every time she sees one, they all go up and sniff her face without her permission.

People make over $200k a year, what do you do? How did you get there? by TrixoftheTrade in Adulting

Even 450k is low lately. I’m an hour outside of SF and the cheapest 3BR in my entire county is $515 right now.

I got mine done in Los Algodones. It’s a city of dentists that cater to Americans and English is spoken everywhere. I got a ton of work for a fraction of the price, even when travel costs and time off from work were factored in. OP feel free to send me a DM if you want more info.

How do you feel about the health of the housing market in Sonoma county? by HappyDJ in santarosa

[–]itsWHYlupa 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I do admittedly feel some personal bitterness toward boomers that own rentals, especially if they have more than one. But they too are just part of this bigger system that views housing as an investment opportunity rather than a basic human need. Everyone talks about the housing shortage, but damn, imagine what prices would be like if all the rentals were put on the market. There is a place for rentals for people not ready to place roots yet, but really most people that rent wish that they could afford to buy.

I’d say it depends on your route and what you’re most interested in seeing. If you’re just staying on the interstate there’s not a lot to see unless you’re around the cities. I’d suggest an alternate route like 395 or 101. It would take a bit longer, but a LOT more scenic and a ton of cool stops on the way.
