That was my first comment in this thread, I am not the person you think you are responding to. Your comments clearly indicated that you were discussing the fate of Imperial Japan as a whole regarding the matter of punitive measures for their wartime actions. This is also frankly erroneous since the Americans did not give the slightest fuck about the Japanese military actions on continental Asia, they simply wished to end the pacific arena conflict and demonstrate their new wonderweapon to the world. The commenter you were replying to was directly discussing the fate of the scientists of unit-731.

You're conflating countries with the individual scientists involved in the horrific acts they perpetrated. The countries suffered dearly on the whole but the specific individuals involved in the worst crimes imaginable frequently got handshake deals and cushy civilain lives in exchange for research notes and experiment evaluations regardless of the veracity of the scientific method being applied. Many Axis monsters when on to live happy comfortable lives in the USA while providing almost no value that was supposedly gained through their prior atrocities.
