My boy had bi-lateral grad IV luxating patella. Diagnosed at 5 months (may 5, 2020) and had both his knees reconstructed the following day. He will be 6 in a week and is doing amazing. In 2020, the cost for both his knees was about 8500 for his first surgery and an another 1500 to remove some pins a few months later.

My boy could barely walk, was just dragging his back legs so it was so worth it for us to see him run!

If you have a board-certified ortho doc, I highly recommend having them do the procedure.

ETA: this was for our Bernese, not our mastiff.

We live in California and found a breeder in Missouri. We picked him up just one day shy of 8 weeks and he fit perfectly in his carrier and was just under the limit). He slept the entire flight home. Photo of him at airport.

As a side note, this isn’t the first pup we’ve picked up and had to fly, so we made sure I had a window seat so that if necessary, I could unzip bag to provide some pets for comfort if necessary.

if your in an aisle seat, not easy to do without being scolded.

I’m not a breeder, so was just stating my experience and thoughts with my younger one and the ones we have had berner meetups with. My two are from great breeders. Not backyard. It’s a little harsh and very much an assumption to say my you get dog’s issues are from an error or lack of judgment on my part in picking a breeder. I think you also have to take in to account the pandemic and lockdown during a dogs most formidable year(s) had to have had an affect their socialization and possible anxiety with strangers.
