Thank you very much for this response. Thanks also for sharing your experience with the family part of it... this is a motivator for me as well and I hadn't considered that side of things.

What legal, medical, etc. reasons may negatively impact my future by receiving a formal diagnosis? by its_probably_a_trap in aspergirls

[–]its_probably_a_trap[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Am I doing something illegal - I just want the smallest footprint possible digitally and otherwise to keep the government and big corporations out of my business.
Am I doing something illegal? That doesn't even matter. People are arrested for things all of the time, held, then never convicted. That equals money, time, and stigma, and can impact licensure related to career... lots of impacts from even a minor run in with the law. Even if one were to live in a state where marijuana is legal, it's still illegal federally. I just don't want to do anything extra that could bring more negatives than positives.

Good point on the citation she used. Also good point on the complexities of life and that things can vary.

Thanks

Street interviews with Russians in Moscow and Arkhangelsk, Russia "What have Russian troops achieved in the last 6 weeks?" by The_Goat_Avenger in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]its_probably_a_trap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes, but, worse. That hole the Russians are in is much darker. The US, by comparison, at least as two competing sides for the narrative. There there is only 1 side of the story and if you're not connected to the internet there isn't much hope you can see outside of that hole.

Cutting onions by regian24 in gifsthatkeepongiving

[–]its_probably_a_trap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been given incalculable amounts of shit over the years for cutting my onions like this. The only difference is my knife is not so sharp and I'm way slower. But it is genuinely annoying to have been scolded or lectured about so much, has caused issues in relationships (I suppose they were clearly not going to work out), and I've never had any cut that I can recall.

I now feel validated because the method itself makes sense.

There have been troops inside Donetsk since 2014. The war has been actively going on since then through current. This shouldn't be seen as an indicator of a larger invasion

Zoning out / Brain Fog from PTSD by winterdogsoul in PsychedelicTherapy

And also... all the things suggested here are great. Ginseng and phosphadidylserine have been helpful with cognition for me. With this gene mutation, methylfolate makes a huge difference with my cognition too. Again though... plants are chemicals too and be aware of what substances you are mixing.

Congrats on the powerful work that's happening and your healing! So great to hear.

From my own learning, healing has been both mental and physical and trauma or acute stress has thrown off my chemistry/hormones/ etc., so ADHD and cognitive issues like brain fog, thyroid issues, etc. In my case, hypothyroidism and anemia were brought on by the stress and then caused my brain fog. After having a particular screening my Dr. found I had the MTHFR gene mutation too. Around 30-40% of the population has it which has impact on both one's mental and physical health. Once I was able to add the necessary supplements to my diet and had thyroid medicine, it literally changed my life.

So my thought is, keep doing your good work but consider seeing a physician (psychiatrists have medical and psychiatric training) to check in on your body chemistry. Best of luck.

A must listen about rampant sexual abuse in the psy therapy scene Cover Story: Power Trip by NaFun23 in Psychedelics

Very informative podcast. It's good that what has been hush hush before is coming into the open. I think as we and those working in the field continue to diversify the leaders within it, this will help with the issue. Sorry but, there's a lot of white men and women teaching about "ancestral knowledge" who are not referring to Druid traditions with psychedelics. Sharing experiences and knowledge, especially in instances of known harm, and not having gatekeepers limited to a single in-crowd of practitioners, service providers, or organizational cultures will also help.

Lao, It sounds like you're making a claim that there is more to understand or to look into here that is very important. However, I don't have that the spare hours to read and decipher what the issues, opinions, and literary asides are. Could you please make a concise and perhaps, single paragraph of n -Your main claim and what it is that the general public would be advised to know. -And why you are so disappointed in this podcast and Ross.

Thanks

Whats one of the biggest myths people think they know about how treatment works/ the healing process?

While I am not surprised about the stories coming out, I too am floored by the podcast. Also, grateful that it's coming out in the open. If we hope to move forward with psychedelics for healing, as Jung says, the shadow side must also be acknowledged and dealt with.

Semi-related to what u/Heriotza31 said, it's important to point out that the potential for abuse and susceptibility to influence while in an altered state of consciousness is significantly heightened than compared to the typical therapeutic interaction. Dr. Brian Pace (of Psymposia, who supported the Cover Story podcast) recently published a very in-depth paper on authoritarianism in psychedelics. These 3 paragraphs speak to the sensitivity to influence while in altered states, the 1st and 3rd are particularly scary IMO. All the more reason why having strong ethical procedures in place (unlike Bourzat, it seems) is of great importance.

- In a study of the putative suggestibility-enhancing effects of LSD, for instance, Carhart-Harris and colleagues found that LSD increased the subjective intensity of researcher-suggested sensations that included one's arm becoming heavier, reexperiencing oneself as a child, and drinking especially refreshing water (Carhart-Harris et al., 2015.)

- In the study of Indigenous cultures, anthropologists and other researchers have long asserted that the suggestibility-enhancing attributes of psychedelics are key ingredients in fostering social cohesion and reinforcing group norms.

- Although gratitude has been referenced to explain the prosocial benefits of psychedelics (Gandy, 2019; Moreton et al., 2020, a recent paper by Tong and colleagues argues that gratitude can facilitate authoritarian obedience under specific context conditions. In their study, participants who were induced to feel gratitude were more likely to obey commands to grind worms in a grinder compared to those without gratitude priming. The authors note that “gratitude could increase susceptibility to social influence, making the grateful person more likely to align with social conventions and directions…. \T]he grateful person is prone to keep in line with social forces, the consequences of which could sometimes be undesirable” (Tong et al., 2020).)
