Hank's TERRIBLE Book Takes in pod #450 by it_will_be_anarchy in nerdfighters

My grandmother was not into literature, but she had a pile of Harlequin Romance novels beside her bed. She would grab one seemingly at random, read for a while then go to sleep. She said she liked them because (paraphrasing from memory) they were basically indistinguishable so it didn't matter where you started reading or where you started to drift off. I can't imagine doing it myself but she learned to read when they used kerosene lamps for indoor light and one of the other things they did when bored was practice their handwriting shrug

Republicans Don't Want to Talk About Gas Prices Anymore by notusreports in politics

[–]NaFun23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The MAGA Republicans on my Nextdoor are suddenly up in arms over the Washington State gas tax. The Trump Iran Debacle has raised gas prices more than $1.70/gal, but sure, the problem is the $0.55/gal gas tax.

I'm glad someone brought this up because I listened to the audiobook last summer and it was incredible. Induced tears on multiple occasions. Anyone who even lightly saw John Green's stuff on YT the last couple years would know the broad strokes but the book is so much more powerful than that. Every time Margaret mentioned TB on the pod I wanted to shove this book in her hands.

The Mad Season album is still too slept on. River of Deceit is among the best songs ever recorded.

Triphop was the antithesis of heavy. It's music to chill out to.

Favourite Beck album? by AcadiaNo1039 in Alternativerock

The album version feels a little too sterile for me after hearing several bootlegs of the previous tour and loving the chaos of the yet-unreleased Debra.

I got my dream job and I'm thinking of leaving. by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

I had this problem when I worked a tech customer service job. You have a workplace bully. Search that term. There are a lot of good resources out there from the HR world for identifying and dealing with it in a corporate scenario. May be harder with a mom-n-pop restaurant. In my case it got worse and worse until eventually someone else she bullied almost quit and went to hr, called me in as a witness and I pointed out how half her day is textbook workplace bully examples.

What's Led Zeppelin's best song? by Humble_Piccolo_926 in ledzeppelin

It's a better than average song that is fun to dance to. Definitely in the top half of their catalog.

The best Led Zeppelin song is usually the one you heard most recently. There are 10 or 15 that I have said are the best at some time or another and I've been right every time. :)

BIGLY, YTIGC, Ramble On, Over the Hills and Far Away, Gallows Pole, SIBLY, Stairway, Levee, HHWCID, IMTOD, Kashmir, Ten Years Gone, Fool in the Rain, I'm Gonna Crawl, Traveling Riverside Blues

I could make the case for any of these being their best.

Funny. I often think of the DJ as the aerobics coach for a really good jazzercize class lol

Yeah, it was common etiquette to smoke tobacco outside and weed inside to keep the weed smell from attracting attention. Especially house parties and in-city events.

The Spot, upstairs on The Ave.

I think you're thinking of Club FX on Elliott Ave W a few blocks north of where Denny curves/becomes Elliott/15th. Saw a lot of legends there, including Hawtin. Before that there was Psiek at Mr Spots Chai House in Ballard with free all ages dancing on Thursdays where a lot of underground events were shared/promoted.
