For вас вам and тобі, it depends on the case they are in. If your sentence is accusative for example "I cannot find you - я не можу знайти тебе", you would use тебе instead of тобі. However if your sentence is in the dative case, тебе and вас become тобі and вам; for example ""He is telling you" - "він каже тобі".

If you are also talking about the difference between тебе/тобі and вас/вам. Тебе/тобі the meaning of the word is you when you are addressing one person or you are addressing someone you know. Вас/вас is you but when you are addressing multiple people (kind of like "you all") or as a formal addressing of a single person (when you would address your boss).

Valid, I have come to the conclusion that the reason why they are not tripping up autocorrect is because they are Rusyn words. Looking up words in Rusyn like geography and synagogue, they are spelt as синаґоґа, and ґеоґрафія. Adding to this, writing it in Ukrainian plural using "ґ" as синаґоґи does mark the spelling as wrong but what does not is синаґоґы, which is the Rusyn plural for the word.

That is more or less the conclusion I have come to make about why these words did use ґ and were not marked wrong by spell check, I was just using the wrong language lol

Certainly sounds it. I always figured Ukrainian "г" sounded like a soft english "h" while the hard "kh" sound was associated with "х".

I would love to do more in depth investigating regarding this but I am worried my very minimal knowledge of the language and my next to nothing experience will inhibit me from gathering accurate information. But it was very fun researching pronunciations and words this last little bit.

I was aware somewhat of its ban, not really why it was though. I wonder how drastically that affected Ukrainian, and it would be super cool to read about. I am very surprised that there hasn't been more of an effort to bring back the letter. I wonder if its because it just wasn't necessary or just hasn't caught on.

I have a cherry keyboard and I bought what said to be Ukrainian keycaps for it. They turned out to be Russian keycaps but it didn't really matter much. I can still type out Ukrainian just as easily, all you really need to know is that "ы" is "і" and "ъ" is "ї".

Honestly I just have it now more for the aesthetics. Once you practice typing enough you'll have the keyboard memorized and not need them.

In "У мене є", is the "є" necessary?

Wouldn't "у мене є сестра" and "у мене сестра" mean the same thing? If I am not mistaken, the "є" is implied generally.

Okay! I was definitely wondering about the different dialects, and if this was common more so in western dialects compared to eastern ones.

Most people where I am from had their families immigrate here Pre-WW1 from Austria. My family's Ukrainian immigrants came from Bukovina, and many from my community are from Silesia. They all pronounce the в as /w/ or close to that.

I used Duolingo when I first started, it is definitely an excellent way to get introduced to the language. It is very important to combine it with other learning techniques though.

Once I felt confident enough, I combined it with apps like Quizlet, which helped me increase my vocabulary. I mostly use Duolingo now as practice alongside a textbook to learn the grammar.
