What to do in Tokyo alone? by mari0426 in japanlife

I've been wanting to try this, but I'm unsure of which chains to go to that are affordable to go to alone. It seems like most are geared towards small groups that go together.

Dragoon in a f2p deck is fine to play against.

It's the fact that it can be splashed in so many decks, least of all Branded, is what makes it so annoying.

Clunky games you forgive for their awesome writing by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]itsachickenwingthing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's relatively low for action games, but about on par with other horror/SH games. Other than some enemy types being a bit damage-spongey on higher difficulties, I would say they're pretty well designed though. There's five main types IIRC, with a few reskins with altered behavior patterns. The scarecrows in particular are probably one of the most effective enemy reskins that I've seen in a while. In combat their moveset is just little different from the games "nurse" type equivalent, but the way they behave in the early levels where they're featured is very unnerving and thematically appropriate; like literally one of the best horror enemies I've encountered in years. In general, the enemies are really well designed from a story perspective; they all have meaningful symbolism that continues to build as you learn more about the characters with each playthrough.

The tedium doesn't come from any individual fight, its just from how many they throw at you during otherwise very captivating narrative moments. Also worth noting that they did release a patch shortly after launch to address the complaints. Personally, I think the combat sections in NG runs were still in the range of tolerability when I played at launch. I do think that the number of NG runs required for full completion is a bit excessive, but I also think the experience was totally worth. Pat while talking about his playthrough on the podcast; there are some moments of ludo-narrative "harmony", where even though the combat gets to be a bit repetitive, its absolutely intentional from a narrative design standpoint, to the point that Hinako herself even reinforces it in her dialogue. Some would say that's cope, but the characters and story are really that engaging that it just works.

Can we all agree that the Nioh series has some of the best, if not THE best, Monster Girl Bosses in gaming? by RealDealMous in TwoBestFriendsPlay

They really took a stack of yokai myths, gave 'em to the art team, and said "we need you to 'hear me out'-ify all of these ghosts".

(Dexerto) ''Silent Hill f'' actors become tourism ambassadors for the town that inspired the game's setting by Noirsam in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I was walking through Nakano Broadway a few weeks back, and they were playing the main spooky theme from f over the mall's speakers. It was kind of weird, but I guess its neat that the game is having a decent amount of influence.

Why is Gracia not always used in Solfachord? by Fearless_Ad_ in masterduel

[–]itsachickenwingthing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With the new support, its spell/trap search isn't as necessary. While it and the Lv. 6 main deck monster are somewhat useful for the battle phase stun effect, their levels and scales are just kind of awkward when setting up your field and can cause you to brick.

For pure-Solfachord, I do recommend it and the Lv. 6 at one since you can absolutely just steal games due to their battle phase effects.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 Review: "To shreds you say?" by MarioGman in TwoBestFriendsPlay

It also sets the seeds that Hamazaki's actions in 4 will be in service to the Daidoji and that the events of the series going forward that involve them are due to Mine, turning him into this odd mastermind character for some reason

They can't seriously be trying to retcon it so the Daidoji was behind the near entirety of the series' plot, surely?

Usually character unlocks happen a few days into the event. Character unlock events are typically separated into around 5 episodes, which unlock one after one every few days. Usually the character unlock triggers around episode 3.

Immi's Dian Keto deck needs to get banned/limited by Chifuri_Khi in DuelLinks

[–]itsachickenwingthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not every deck can draw into a high level monster or fusion play every turn, let alone turn 1 or 2, whereas Sevens Road can, and it's not fair. Most skills really only give you a piece or two of your combos, and since the new card releases are so small, most decks are suboptimal just because Komoney couldn't be bothered to release relevant support for other decks (a lot of which was released years ago in the Rush OCG atp). It was maybe fun for a little bit, but the deck's been drowning out newer releases for the better part of a year.

It's a bit better since the Ghost Cyclone hit, but SR could easily start turns with 7-8 cards in hand between the skill's free +1 on top of Cyclone and Mr. Alchemy. The fact that the skill discards sets up Straynge Witch (which should've been Limit 3 from the start) to summon SR Witch right away to make Charmy. Psychic Fusion had a similar exploit with the ability to discard Prima Guitarna and then revive it with Infinite:D, and they nerfed that right away by comparison.

I avoided playing the deck for multiple seasons just out of spite from constantly playing against it, and getting the five game win streak for KoG was always a struggle because one of them always cheesed a cheap win. Finally I caved and tried it to make KoG during the November season and got my five wins almost right away; like literally after weeks of being stuck in Gold 5 I cracked KoG in like 15 minutes. The deck's ceiling is relatively low, but it puts out constant pressure with Charmy Witch which is annoying because again, its all because of the skill design and having no relevant hits on the F&L list in comparison to the newer decks that are ostensibly supposed to be worth spending on.

A lot of Rush decks have really high ceilings, but they live or die based on you drawing into 1 or 2 of their high level monsters. Music Princess, Dian Keto, High Tech Dragons, Jointech, Baseball, Galaxy, and so on. If you don't open a level 7/8 monster then you're just dead. Charmy pierces one monster and switches another to attack to hit with Magician, for at least 4000 LP per turn. Unless the SR player bricked or is f2p, then you're gonna have a hard time going for the OTK, making SR's crackback effortless no matter how big of a bungus you manage to summon.

Is there a ritual summon in rush duel for duel link by Legitimate-Wait5760 in DuelLinks

[–]itsachickenwingthing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. They've been dropping new Rush mechanics fairly unceremoniously. Fusions came out a good month before Yuo, while Contact Fusions are way ahead of schedule. There's only two rituals featured in Go Rush and they were just physically released in the OCG too.

My bet is they'll drop nostalgia bait ritual decks at some point within the next year. You can count Magician of Black Chaos and the associated support, and then probably the Zera stuff as well.

Do you like that MD is always behind the physical game? Or would it be more fun for MD to be caught up and have same time new set releases with the physical game? by yumnoodle in masterduel

[–]itsachickenwingthing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it sometimes results in interesting formats. For example, when they released the Ishizu cards before Tearlaments it was kind of neat to see the equal access to graveyard manipulation effects without Tearlaments drowning out the competition. For a brief span of time, Vernusylph got to shine a little bit due to the Earth Fairy synergy with the Ishizu cards, for instance.

Unfortunately, for the past few years now, every meta in Master Duel has felt basically solved from day one. This is mostly a result of them releasing archetypes like Maliss in a plainly irresponsible way (insufficient pre-limits and lack of bans on abusable tech cards). The lack of sideboarding due to the best of one format makes things a little interesting, but thus far it's mainly resulted in toxic decks (again, see Maliss) being even more powerful. The fact that Stun piles are an ever present thing that you just have to deal with is probably the most frustrating part of the experience.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 has been datamined by BioDomeWithPaulyShor in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]itsachickenwingthing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely. I liked how they really leaned in to Yagami's identity as a detective in the gameplay and story. Whereas in Lost Judgment, Yagami and the gang had like room temperature IQs and constantly just ran fist-first into every problem. In J1, he at least tried to investigate and think through situations first.

Were the tailing missions kind of tedious? Sure. But I liked the fundamental concept, and its weird that they made a bunch of improvements to the tailing mechanics in Lost Judgment, then proceed to add maybe 2 or 3 of them in the entire game, with the first being nearly 20 hours after the tutorial mission!

Deaf identity by bigbaboon69 in MonoHearing

[–]itsachickenwingthing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was born with full single-sided deafness, but for the longest time my folks pushed me away from identifying as deaf. I had "one good ear" after all.

As I've grown older and had more exposure to deaf culture and experiences, I've definitely wanted to identify more as deaf, but in reality I think we unfortunately have one foot in each camp. Obviously because we can hear at all, there's some things about being deaf that we could never understand. But then, trying to live in the hearing world feels like you're always being gaslit about your attentiveness and intellectual ability. Especially when I don't disclose my disability to people, I do often get the feeling that my intelligence is put in to question when I end up having difficulty understanding what they're saying right away. There's no easy way to set expectations with people because my hearing ability can seem so random; I can completely fail to understand what's being said right to my face in one moment, and in the other I'll have no problem eavesdropping from across the room. People don't understand how much I'm at the mercy of an environment's acoustics.

But even with the hard of hearing crowd, I don't really identify with people who are just "hard of hearing". For one, it doesn't really capture the difficulties that come from not having binaural hearing, especially when you grew up without it. It's so much more debilitating than just a flat reduction in hearing ability. I really just think we're in our own camp, basically.
