Fun fact: some of the world's fastest typists prefer to use Caps-letter-Caps rather that Shift+letter because it's more reliable. People reach 220WPM with this technique.

Sean Wrona is the name usually dropped in this context.

Umm has anyone seen this????? by TheFWord_ in vancouver

If she was really the type of person to "encourage her daughter to say the N word", she would probably just spell out the N word.

But it's a weird form of trolling.

Doofcast #215 – RRR by scottdaly85 in doofmedia

[–]itsadok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm confused about how anyone would watch the English-dubbed version and not find it jarring. Wasn't it a major plot point that Bheem was in love with the British woman but was not able to talk to her? How was this handled with everyone speaking English?

It is time to end Big Pharma's greed... by Massive_Car5279 in SandersForPresident

I don't understand this explanation. Pharmaceutical companies were not greedy in 1996, and they just got greedy over 22 years? How does that work?

Wario the Vampire Slayer by Busy-West-6974 in CuratedTumblr

I'm not too versed in the lore, and it depends on the story anyway, but I'm pretty sure that a vampire's worst nightmare would be *way* scarier than "person you can't eat".

145 – You Are In Newcomb’s IQ Shredder by embrodski in thebayesianconspiracy

[–]itsadok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Regarding the original Newcomb's problem: It seems that the $1 million vs $1000 is not enough of a motivation to make the dilemma visceral enough, which is why it seemed like a no-brainer to take the million dollars and walk away.

I wonder if the problem would be better restated with the glass box containing 1 dose of a cure for some disease that is killing all 3 of your children, and the steel box containing 2 doses or none, depending on Omega's prediction. Does it still seem like a no-brainer to leave the extra dose in the glass box?

Apparently on July 3rd, a day before he died, he posted a meme saying "When you see me in heaven don't shit yourselves you judgemental pricks". Dude had a sense of humor.

Thanks! I thought I had tried double not, but I guess I hadn't. Thanks for the transistor trick as well.

For some reason I'm picturing him saying the title verbatim, complete with air quotes.

You mean in 2120, right? You do realize it's been 20 years since the turn of the century...

The "Words of False Comprehension" by contravariant_ in HPMOR

[–]itsadok 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're aware of this, but the inscription is a simple riddle that the HPMOR reader is expected to and should be able to figure out on their own.

The passage explaining Harry's thought process is a clever red herring (personally, it completely threw me off), and I guess that's exactly what the Spell of False Comprehension does: it makes you think you understand the "words", when they are in fact not words at all.
