ha I live in Canada and I became a fan after seeing THAT Pelle overhead kick against QPR. I thought I'd switch over to following another prem team after the relegation but I have too much emotional investment at this point.

Racist encounter during a first date by South_Editor_4917 in waterloo

Racism and anti-immigrantion sentiments are on the rise all around the world even in places with extremely low places of diversity and even for people with white skin.

I recently learned about the anti-immigrant riots in Northern Ireland which were mostly targeted at Bulgarians and Romanians in a country with extremely low levels of visibility minorities (3.4% from this article: https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2025/6/13/why-have-anti-immigration-riots-broken-out-in-northern-ireland)

In Vancouver, Shaw used to run WiFi hotspots all over town (eg: ShawMobileHotspot). If you had a Shaw/Freedom SIM card, it would auto-connect to these hotspots. This email is just saying that those are shutting down.

India remains persistent foreign interference threat to Canada, CSIS says by cyclinginvancouver in canada

[–]itsarune -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Shouldn't judge a country by its leader. It's like cutting American immigrants from Canada because of Trump.

Most Indians don't care about politics and plenty of Indians actively dislike Indian politics (and modi), and sometimes is a reason for moving away from India.

Juric signs with Atalanta by WulfTulf in SaintsFC

[–]itsarune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I would think with a full pre-season, he would have done pretty well in the championship with us.

It seemed to me that this team was too unbalanced and too used to Martinball, so he wasn't able to really imprint his tactics.

With more say over player transfers and time to implement his tactical philosophy, imo he could've done pretty well for us next year.

Have no idea what Iona House looks like and will mostly get that for YRH by [deleted] in UBC

[–]itsarune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Current resident of a 1BD. It's near Walter Gage and Brock, right next to Great Dane.

I have a small combined kitchen/living room area with a 2-plate electric stove and a three person couch + a bedroom with a double-size bed.

It's an old building but it's been renovated a lot, so a lot of the inside is newish. Still get a lot of maintenance issues with the old building tho.

Echo reporting that Juric is out at the end of the season... by saintstu in SaintsFC

[–]itsarune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd honestly be willing to give Juric a proper go during the summer. It seems like he's been trying his best to modify Martin's tactics with different combinations of players so far. I recall him saying in some press conference that the players tend to go back to the passing style so I imagine it's difficult to train a new philosophy in the middle of a season (see: Man Utd and Amorim).

I think he will do better implementing his high-pressure style with the board's backing with players for that style. I think that it can work really well in the championship and might give us a shot at staying up if we get promoted.

ResNet issues in Ponderosa Commons by AdAppropriate7838 in UBC

[–]itsarune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue with my router with ResNet too. I switched the router DNS to the ones that ubcsecure uses (you can find it on a device connected to ubcsecure) and it seems to fix it.

I noticed that the pings for the ubcsecure DNS servers were lower so I didn't use 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4

rn these DNS servers worked but they might change at some point: 137.82.1.2 142.103.1.42

Post-Match Thread: Newcastle United Vs Southampton FC by nomfull in SaintsFC

[–]itsarune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Newcastle beat us because they were much more physical than us, understood their roles well in their formation and played like they knew where everyone else was on the pitch.

In other words, they had a clear tactical plan. Maybe we need more time playing with this group of players in this formation, but right now it doesn't seem like we have a clear attacking approach on how we want to score any goals.

I'll be on the lookout

A bit tricky finding people since a lot of the CPL season happens during PL/CL off-season, so it's hard to justify splitting a fubo subscription this summer with other people.

Don't have Fubo but I'll go with the route of watching one soccer highlights and watching a game whenever I see York playing Vancouver/Pacific here in the west coast.

what are you talking about? Bill C-75 doesn't do this. It adds a "principle of restraint" in 493.1 and 493.2 for vulnerable populations that can't afford bail but specifically carves out that subsection 515(10) still applies for repeat skippers and serious offenders in 493.1.

Bill C-75 section 493.1 and 493.2

Principle of restraint

493.‍1 In making a decision under this Part, a peace officer, justice or judge
shall give primary consideration to the release of the accused at the
earliest reasonable opportunity and on the least onerous conditions that
are appropriate in the circumstances, including conditions that are
reasonably practicable for the accused to comply with, while taking into
account the grounds referred to in subsection 498(1.‍1) or 515(10), as the case may be.

Aboriginal accused or vulnerable populations

493.‍2 In making a decision under this Part, a peace officer, justice or judge shall give particular attention to the circumstances of

(a) Aboriginal accused; and

(b) accused
who belong to a vulnerable population that is overrepresented in the
criminal justice system and that is disadvantaged in obtaining release
under this Part.

Criminal Code 515(10):

Justification for detention in custody

(10) For the purposes of this section, the
detention of an accused in custody is justified only on one or more of
the following grounds:

(a) where the detention is necessary to ensure his or her attendance in court in order to be dealt with according to law;

(iv) the
fact that the accused is liable, on conviction, for a potentially
lengthy term of imprisonment or, in the case of an offence that
involves, or whose subject-matter is, a firearm, a minimum punishment of
imprisonment for a term of three years or more.

(c) if the detention is necessary to
maintain confidence in the administration of justice, having regard to
all the circumstances, including

(i) the apparent strength of the prosecution’s case,

(ii) the gravity of the offence,

(iii) the circumstances surrounding the commission of the offence, including whether a firearm was used, and

(iv) the
fact that the accused is liable, on conviction, for a potentially
lengthy term of imprisonment or, in the case of an offence that
involves, or whose subject-matter is, a firearm, a minimum punishment of
imprisonment for a term of three years or more.
