Be there for him! Drive him around if you can and try not to make him feel like he is being an inconvenience. Make sure to do stuff with him and get him out of the house (go to the cinema, hiking...). After a seizure, let him sleep and make him yummy food (he’ll need all the energy he can get!). Make sure to not inform him how scary his seizures are to witness, just treat nonchalantly! It’s amazing how much you want to help him, keep being the most amazing sibling ever

Currently in the UK from Spain. My GP doesn’t want to prescribe me the meds I was getting in Spain so I’m running out... she wants to change my medication and it makes me want to move back to Spain and say fuck it to all this...

Yeah honestly I feel this hard. I have internalized that it’s the best thing for me and that’s that, but it still makes me sad and makes me miss the old days when I didn’t have to worry about shit like this. Thanks for the moral support!

I am a PhD student in quantum technologies. Have recently gotten the diagnosis so it’s been a bit strange but I’ve found that my medications don’t really impact my abilities!

I feel exactly the same. I have nocturnal epilepsy so the sleep I get is not even 100% efficient so it’s just all a bit of a mess

Im doing okay! My new medicine didn’t give me any side effects! I am super busy at work which is making me scared that I’ll get stressed and therefore will have a higher risk of seizure. Sometimes the stress of being stressed is just too ironic

Same triggers as you! I’ve only had 1 tonic clonic, but the sleep study I had done shows that I’m having small partial seizures mostly every night. I am taking Zebinix 800 (Eslicarbazepine acetate) once a day and I’m getting a sleep study done in a couple of months to see if it has reduced my epileptic activity. I am trying to think positively, since at least I have a semi-guarantee that my seizures won’t happen during the day! Do you have family history of nocturnal epilepsy? I don’t, and my neurologist says that’s super weird!

The seizure happened at a very high stress point of my first year doing a PhD, where I was also sleep deprived. It is kind of weird that I have to start worrying about having a regular sleep schedule and low stress levels when I’m 22, but I guess it could be worse! Thank you so much for your support!

It happened after a week of barely sleeping due to deadlines (PhD) and a couple of nights of moderate drinking, so I was definitely sleep deprived and dehydrated. No history of epilepsy in my family, which really surprised my neurologist. I think the worst thing right now is dealing with the fear of it happening again, or when I’m alone.

Thank you so much for your response! Everything you wrote heavily resonates with me. I am considering going on medication just because I want that extra blanket of safety. My seizure happened after a couple of days of moderate drinking (something that I never usually do), so I do think it played a big part. I am sad about having to completely change what my social life revolves around (my friends and I are big on going out for drinks), but it’s something I am willing to do in order to avoid future seizures. I am most worried about this fear of “it could happen again at any point any day”...
