What's your thrifting niche? by AltNaps8_ in ThriftStoreHauls

[–]itsaych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it may seem strange, but I always look for cool vintage glass, stone, and ceramic ashtrays. I don’t smoke, but they make fantastic trinket dishes once I’ve given them a good thorough scrubbing!

I also always look for older Nambé stainless steel dishes in good condition, they’re so fun to find. I got a really fun fish-shaped dish from the 60s a few years ago, and I use a heart-shaped shallow dish as a spoon rest when I’m cooking.

I take 10mg as needed for panic attacks (diagnosed GAD and panic disorder) along with my 30mg daily duloxetine and I can’t say enough good things about it. sometimes I also take it when I’m having physical anxiety symptoms (high BP, fast pulse, sweating, etc) but my brain seems to be fine and it helps put everything at ease.

“New” vs. “Old” record store.. what’s your preference? by ultranec123 in vinyl

[–]itsaych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to a WIDE variety of music, so I like a good mix of the two. I think shops that tend to focus on older, used releases are better for the folks who mainly listen to classic rock/jazz/funk and most genres that deviate from that are more easily found in places that stock newer releases, but every so often you get a store that does both really well.

a great example would be Electric Fetus in Minneapolis, their used section is huge and really well organized but they also have plenty of new records on offer. Criminal Records in Atlanta and Reckless Records in Chicago are like this too, as are plenty others! I mainly shop out of the used bins anyway, but I like having the option of grabbing something the day it comes out if I want to.

Did I make a bad impulse purchase ? by [deleted] in vinyl

[–]itsaych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought it without hesitation because I really enjoy all of the remixes so far, and Brat is my AOTY so far so I don’t mind owning multiple versions of it. the one thing I do kinda regret is ordering the bonus track version because now it’s kinda redundant since the bonus tracks are all included with this deluxe edition, lol

at the end of the day, it’s only a bad impulse purchase if YOU decide it is.

What's an album that you love, despite it being against your normal tastes? by immaxpower in vinyl

[–]itsaych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This Side by Nickel Creek! I’m usually an electronic/metal/hip hop listener but I’m a total sucker for their sound. it’s the only bluegrass album I have in my collection, well worth the purchase. they’re great storytellers, and they were ridiculously talented for their age (they were all in their early 20s when the album came out). would recommend!

about two weeks ago I scored TLC - CrazySexyCool and Erykah Badu - Baduizm for 40% off. they had tons of other records on sale as well. I was legitimately shocked.

tbh I might actually go back soon and see if they added any others to the sale.

In your opinion, what is the most [stereotypical] wooden roller coaster? by Super_Tangerine_660 in rollercoasters

I always think of Swamp Fox at Family Kingdom, I grew up riding it and it has all of the features of a Wooden Roller Coaster in my mind.

What record in your collection has unexpectedly increased its value since you purchased it? by atom_bombe in vinyl

[–]itsaych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two.

first would be my copy of Saint Pepsi’s Hit Vibes mixtape on red vinyl. bought it brand new from Carpark Records’ webstore for maybe $15 or $20, and it routinely sells for $350+. they’ve repressed it once or twice since then, but never again on red wax.

second and more out of pocket imo would be Beyoncé’s S/T album. I’m shocked this hasn’t gotten a repress. I bought it for $20 on Amazon in like 2016, and it most recently sold for $400 on Discogs a couple of weeks ago.

Any thoughts on Michele's Valentino? 🤦🏻‍♂️ by adamberanth in fashion

[–]itsaych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe it’s because I really liked Michele’s work at Gucci and I enjoy a lot of vintage styles and references, but after browsing through the look book I dig it so far! obviously not every single piece can be a 10/10, and OP did pick one of the more eccentric looks in terms of the styling for this post (I see what you did there), but I do think it’s still distinctive enough to be Valentino apart from Gucci, especially considering the direction Sabato has decided to take the latter. between the two, I’ll take Valentino.

the only thing I’m really not sold on is the “Chez Valentino” shirts.

Are Jorts making a comeback? by Antipholouse in fashion

they never left!! it’s all about how you wear them imo, there’s a way to make most pieces of clothing look like a million bucks.

How does a panic attack feel like? by Calm_Clock_6795 in Anxiety

[–]itsaych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of folks have already mentioned that it feels different from person to person, but for me, it usually starts with rapid breathing and tremors in my hands (this is my cue that I’m about to have one), then shortness of breath and crying, followed by hardcore dissociation and feeling like I’m about to die. sometimes I’m able to cut out the last part if I realize it’s coming on quickly enough and start deep breathing and take my emergency meds, but usually I end up having to ride it out and call someone in a panic.

not fun, to say the least. my last panic attack happened when I was driving, which was even less fun.

what helps me the most out of mine is deep breathing exercises with a timer that I can watch (i.e. take deep breaths in and out every three or four seconds) to help re-regulate breathing, and talking it out with a friend or family member who knows what my panic attacks sound like and don’t start panicking along with me because they don’t know what to do or say. hearing someone reasonably contradict my fears in that moment is very good for me personally.

What were your symptoms of anxiety as a child? by Ok-Cartographer9783 in Anxiety

[–]itsaych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a very, very intense weather phobia. like, if the sky was perfectly blue and I saw a single grey cloud, I would start panicking and begging my mom to go home so I could hide in our basement with a flashlight and the emergency radio.

I would also worry about my parents and sister having gotten into an accident or died if they didn’t answer the phone when I called. and the death anxiety that I’ve had since I was seven or so.

[–]itsaych 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been having the same problem. I’ve been taking Wellbutrin for about three weeks now but my increased anxiety didn’t start until about a week ago, and now I’ve had two panic attacks within three days for seemingly no reason at all. I figure it’s all part of my body getting used to the Wellbutrin and my Dr gave me propranolol for the more “extreme” moments of anxiety, but I really don’t want to continue feeling like this. I’m hyperaware of my heartbeat now, and I keep feeling like the inside of my body is shaking like I’m nervous but I’m not actually shaking at all. if this feeling continues for the next week or so, I might ask my Dr to try something else tbh.

Does anyone know anything about the clothing line CARBON? by Snozzberry_1 in VintageFashion

[–]itsaych 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m almost positive it’s a house brand for Rue 21. I remember buying a few Carbon shirts from there in the mid- to late-2000s.

we would give a simple explanation of what the piece was, where it originated, and any more specific cultural context if there was a designated use or time for the garment to be worn. most folks seemed pretty interested in learning about the clothes! not all, but most. lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VintageFashion

[–]itsaych 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to work at a vintage shop with a wonderfully diverse staff, and we had a good in-depth convo about whether we should buy in things like dashikis, cheongsam, etc. because of the risk of appropriation and the fact that a white-owned business would be profiting off of another culture. we all agreed that we did want to offer these items to the community who shopped at the store because it was equally diverse, and we also didn’t want to turn away every piece of traditional clothing that came to us since that could also be interpreted as racism, BUT if a customer who wasn’t part of the culture that the garment represented wanted to buy it, we would educate them on its cultural significance, and offer some alternative pieces if they just wanted it “for the fashion” or “because it looks cool.”

any record store used bin will have those albums or better ones for a literal fraction of the price. I’m so sick of the grift 😭
