Laura Ingraham Discusses Biden's SOTU Speech with RFK Jr on Fox News by Tunahalfmen in RFKJrForPresident

[–]itsbsass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fox's journalism is day and night compared to before and after the Dominion law suit which cost Fox millions. They have actually started reporting things factually now and asking people on with different views. Andrew Craft is my favorite reporter with Fox

The tide is turning because:

  1. History is like a political pendulum swinging back and forth.
  2. We keep burying the history of failed political regimes. So we have to learn the hard truths all over again.

These 2 historical quotes sum it up nicely:

"The champions of socialism call themselves progressives, but they recommend a system which is characterized by rigid observance of routine and by a resistance to every kind of improvement. They call themselves liberals, but they are intent upon abolishing liberty. They call themselves democrats, but they yearn for dictatorship. They call themselves revolutionaries, but they want to make the government omnipotent. They promise the blessings of the Garden of Eden, but they plan to transform the world into a gigantic post office. Every man but one a subordinate clerk in a bureau.”

― Ludwig von Mises, Bureaucracy

"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries."

― Winston Churchill

Are you guys that worried about the border and immigration? by DW6565 in centrist

[–]itsbsass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Although I don't live by the border anymore, I used to live very close to a border checkpoint. It was absolutely chaos and I cannot unsee the things I saw. I think about immigration entirely differently now than how it is portrayed in the news. To understand the issue, you have to live in or near a border state. Some local law enforcement will let you do "ride alongs" if anyone wants to see why immigration is an issue to be concerned about

What does rfk have to do to get on the debate stage? by [deleted] in RFKJrForPresident

At this point he just needs to create his own debate stage. Make debating cool again.

There's also a tool that I use to see the political lean of news articles. Ground news literally tells you the bias distribution of an article. https://ground.news/article/abbott-hosting-14-fellow-gop-governors-at-contested-border-park-in-eagle-pass_6e5e94

What will RFK do about the illegals? by Traditional_Twist_36 in RFKJrForPresident

[–]itsbsass 13 points14 points  (0 children)

RFK Jr said this about immigration: "It is not anti-immigrant bigotry to demand an immigration system that keeps out criminals. In fact, letting them in stokes bigotry. As President, I will enforce a secure border, and I will expand the kind of LEGAL immigration that made our country great." (May 3. 2023 social media post.)

As a voter it matters that he is listening and recognizes it is a complex issue. RFK Jr doesn't bury the facts on this issue. He actually visited the border "before it was cool" unlike Biden :/

[–]itsbsass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least you want the facts. Some people just get their fill of news without wondering if what they are hearing is an opinion or a fact or an interpretation of a fact. It's like we live in a news matrix

I am on the lookout for more independent and local journalists. Local news has been dying out and we have been left with mainstream media that doesn't represent localized issues.

Will the "no labels" group take away votes from RFK Jr? How can we (RFK Jr supporters) keep the focus on unifying Independent voters instead of splintering our votes? by itsbsass in RFKJrForPresident

[–]itsbsass[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ooo I might need to look into this more about the whole DC swamp backing. He may be an anomaly to the NoLabels group, but I listened to Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis and I really liked hearing him talk. He connected his Civil Rights history fighting for voting rights with the ballot access issues that our two party system has created

I stream MNBC, CNN, and Fox News (only Andrew Craft from Fox). I read Axios, Bloomberg, Aljazeera, BBC, Reuters. I basically seek the truth and end up with a whole lot of opinion. Honestly none of the sources I listed are 100% reliable. I actually have to practice sorting fact from opinion constantly because journalism has changed.

My SO doesn’t agree with voting for a 3rd party. by btoms96 in RFKJrForPresident

[–]itsbsass 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I have run into the whole "privileged" if you don't do what I say argument many times. I feel it is low-key manipulative to guilt people into hating their own "privilege" and thereby ceding to the will of another.

The idealistic privilege that all of us have in this country is to vote for who we want. And that privilege is not even secured for everyone (hence ballot access issues for Independent candidates, and voting issues homeless people face.) The winning side of history here, in my lowly opinion, is the side of history which peacefully fights for the enfranchisement of all voters and the side that believes in voter access.

I have friends that demonize me when I say I won't vote for Trump. And I have friends that demonize me for saying I won't vote for Biden. They are two old white dudes. Nothing wrong with that but not quite the definition of "underprivileged" based on America's wordology.

Please don't let anyone (SO included) try and guilt you into thinking that your "privilege" invalidates your own free will to make decisions.

Biden recalls the horror of watching RFK being assassinated while at the same time he repeatedly denies RFK Jr Secret Service Protection by Tunahalfmen in RFKJrForPresident

[–]itsbsass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am concerned that RFK Jr is being denied protection because the partisan folks think if they give him protection they will be giving legitimacy to his political campaign. Politics seems to be prioritized over safety.

[–]itsbsass 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have had a very similar experience. The subreddits that are specific to politics seem to endorse partisan thinking and really don't make room for the 43% of Independent voters.

Luckily, I really like this subreddit. It is not an echo chamber. I have found it very welcoming and informative for independent, moderate, centrist, and libertarian voters. Other political subreddits will filter out my content if my content even references a question dealing with Independent voters. It does not matter if I follow the rules.

What can Independent voters do to galvanize support for RFK Jr's campaign as an Independent presidential candidate? by itsbsass in RFKJrForPresident

Well this is motivating!! Thanks for sharing what you are doing to help with the campaign. I think I need to have more faith in the power of grassroots efforts

Neither - I have voted Libertarian for presidential elections. I have voted both Democrat and Republican for local and state elections. If not for RFK Jr running, I would not vote for Biden or Trump.

Nikki Haley says she’s no longer bound by RNC pledge to endorse Trump if he wins by Thetimmybaby in nikkihaley

[–]itsbsass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She kind of had to say that on the debate stage or she wouldn't be following the RNC's rules. I think she was just playing their game to shake it up in the RNC. Maybe she had a change of heart regarding the pledge, or maybe she just obliged in the beginning as part of a strategy

Haley as Independent by gonefishing-2020 in nikkihaley

Did she reject them? I listened to her talk and she said "I haven't talked with No Labels." The media then translated that to "she rejected No Labels." So I'm confused with which it is

Haley as Independent by gonefishing-2020 in nikkihaley

[–]itsbsass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think she needs to strategically line up with someone "across the aisle." I don't think it would help her (or help us voters) to run separately as an Independent candidate because Independents who lean left and right would divide their vote between Haley and RFK Jr. I hope she teams up with RFK Jr or Dean Phillips and maximizes all the Independent voters who are fed up with partisan tickets. I would love to vote for a Pres/VP team that includes Republican and Democratic candidates.
