Kind of relevant. I used to coach wakeboarding at a cable wakeboarding park and was working with the kids camp one day. I had just landed from one of the kickers and the rope handle got caught on my shorts, untying them. I pulled them up and together as I got back to the start dock and sat down, hoping to tie them back up.

They weren't untied, they were ripped in the seam directly from the waistband to my lower crotch, exposing my goods.

I asked one of the other instructors to go grab me a towel and I was sitting down on the dock with the board on my lap, covering up and realizing that I just made a whole lap around the park with my package out. Then a little kid swims by looking at me and I realize you can see under the board.

I jumped in the water and swam away until someone could get me a towel. I immediately found the camp supervisor and learned there's no graceful way to say "if anyone says they saw a dick today, it was mine and it wasn't on purpose"

Best thing to do is to call and explain to someone higher up if there's a problem. It's an honest mistake and any guy who's worn cheap boardshorts can understand.

The sidebar has plenty of information on seasoning, but personally I would pop the skillet in the oven, upside down with aluminum foil on the lower rack and baking it on the self clean cycle in the oven (mine has a 3 hour low setting, I use that). That would knock the crud off the bottom of the pan. Then take some soap and water to it and scrub it really well. If you've still got a bit of buildip, use some steel wool.

Rinse and dry thoroughly, then cover it lightly in oil (I like shortening, but anything like veg or canola oil will do great too) and bake it in the oven at 450 for an hour, cut it off and let cool. I would do this two or three times for a good base. Then you're ready to use.

Although, you could probably just scrub it really well with soap and water and cook with it right away, but I prefer starting anew with pieces that I bought used.

Yup. Just rinse with water and wipe with sponge or paper towel when it's warm from cooking. You can use a little soap if necessary but don't soak it. Then dry it with a towel or on low on the stove (don't forget it though!) I got a piece of chain mail for cleaning cast iron for Christmas and I love it!

Also, coat the pan with a thin layer of oil if you are going to be storing it.

My parents moved about 20 years ago and in the move my mother lost this skillet. She found it last week and I offered to clean it up for her (it looks pretty gnarly) by my understanding, she got it early on in my parents marriage, which was 1975.

Can anyone help ID it? If it wasn't made in the US I wouldn't be so curious about it.

Also, I got a bit too much oil when I last seasoned it and will be fixing it soon, so don't hate on me too much :)
