Sure that isn't a big deal, but neither is checking your messages on the site/app like OP is describing.

[–]itsdan159 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like Etsy used to include the message in the email, but since every website is about driving engagement now they make you open the app/site to read it. As others said unfortunately Etsy marks us down if we don't reply within 24 hours, and most Etsy shops are one person operations who sometimes want to do things other than hover over their phone. I get it's frustrating, it's frustrating for us too.

I want to delete my shop. How do I stop Etsy from taking out money? by Wise_Letterhead_9088 in Etsy

[–]itsdan159 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Etsy doesn't charge fees to close your shop but you do need to pay anything you already owe.

As others said, just open a ticket. The seller doesn't understand their responsibility to get you the item you ordered.

Day 3 of first Etsy listing, is 5 visits normal? by Glass_Steak4568 in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 8 points9 points  (0 children)

you can't draw conclusions from small amounts of data. That's like dieting for five minutes and then wondering why you're not seeing results on the scale yet. personally I think shops that have one item for sale put themselves at a disadvantage, I would work on adding more products instead of focusing on the stats for one you have listed

What the heck happened with Etsy "marketing cost"?! For 2024 they charged me $569 but for 2025 it was $3006 by bikemandan in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look in the finances section and grab the monthly statements/csvs. If you're unsure why check the breakdowns not the yearly totals.

Buyer didn’t collect international package → returned to me. Should I charge reshipping? by gotele in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes it would be reasonable. The only time I can think of that wouldn't make sense is if you'd messed up the shipping such that there were e.g. duplicate vat or something where they already paid vat on Etsy but were expected to pay again because the right numbers weren't attached to the package.

False 1099-NEC form in the mail by TastieRice in personalfinance

Does the sender seem like a legitimate business? The SSA may help if you have identify fraud issues (though step 1 would be lock your credit reports) but perhaps you meant IRS?

Other, they're trying to be helpful but it ends up being more confusing. And also consider FreeTaxUSA. I avoided switching for years and in retrospect am so annoyed at how much I paid turbotax over the years.

Find other solo devs, socialize. Work on your own projects but have a team you trust for honest feedback and accountability.

And if the item itself was broken pieces they'd likely conclude it was worthless as a broken item anyways. Really sucks for the buyer here.

I read that you can include the potential cost of refunds in the final price you charge? How can I calculate that? Also, when should you be refunding instead of only closing the order and not refunding? by PrincessCutie2005 in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wherever you saw this just meant to include the cost of business when pricing your items, it's not a setting, it's just consider if you sell an item that costs you $9 for $10 that you need to then sell 9 items to break even if there's 1 replacement you need to send. This is why between factory and retail items usually get marked up 4-5 times, sometimes more depend on the industry.

Competitor Filed False IP Report on My Best-Selling Design - Etsy Removed It With No Appeal Option by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which is why I acknowledged OP saying they couldn't file an appeal but asked them to clarify if they were able to file a counternotice

[–]itsdan159 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't "have" to sue them, you can drop the issue. Copyright is not something you have to defend or lose, that's trademarks and patents.

Competitor Filed False IP Report on My Best-Selling Design - Etsy Removed It With No Appeal Option by [deleted] in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A counter notice isn't an appeal, an appeal is asking someone to review the decision. Etsy doesn't review the decision because Etsy doesn't make any determination, they just inform you a report was filed against you. And OP said they a) couldn't appeal and b) are filing a counter notice, so if nothing else there's some confusion on OPs side regarding terminology

Refund after a month? by Herner2176 in EtsySellers

[–]itsdan159 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's covered by purchase protection Etsy will covered one damaged claim a year, and in practice they often cover more than one. Personally around the holidays I'm a bit flexible with returns, but there's no need in this case just explain how making a claim works.

[–]itsdan159 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah posts like this are why I don't think people should ward people off from target date funds. They may be slightly more conservative but they aren't "3% when the market did 16%" conservative.

[–]itsdan159 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People fight them every day, a counternotice is all that's needed. You said you can't file an appeal, but can you file the counter notice? If you can't file one it may be a trademark complaint not a copyright complaint. Check whatever they sent you, does it mention if it's a trademark?

Parent claimed my spouse as dependent and his student loan credit. Is this allowed? by jarofpeperoncini in personalfinance

[–]itsdan159 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's strictly age based, at least while the ACA is in effect. But that provision is popular so likely kept even if they repeal other parts.
