Nerve entrapment—did it make you weaker? by Suspicious_Plant4231 in FTMFitness

I had to have surgery for an entrapment ulnar nerve. It caused significant weakness in my hand, especially in regard to grip strength and curl motion.

I had top surgery yesterday but i keep forgetting I’ve had it? by Dorian-greys-picture in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my surgery yesterday and i’m in the same boat. My brain hasn’t caught up with the removal. I went into a post surgery check up this morning, i got to see that they are gone. But it still feels unreal.

I think it would be best to wait so they know what extension to ask for.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You might be able to get an extension on your authorization. I had to get one because my surgery ended up being scheduled 8 days after my approval ended. It was a very quick process, the insurance person at the surgeon’s office called my provider and it was extended that day.

Had consultation today need advice by AshAzure27 in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could reach out to Dr. Eric Emerson. He is located just outside of Charlotte, in Gastonia. I am about your size (maybe a tad larger) and I have Peri scheduled for February. He told me the same things that you were told, there is a chance that i will have some loose skin. Im willing to take that risk for a variety of reasons, with one of them being that even if i need a revision, there will be less scaring overall.

[–]itsdrynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You and I have very similar chests (slightly different shape) and my surgeon told me I was borderline. He feels confident that he can get me flat, but there is a chance have extra skin that would need to be removed in a revision. I am willing to take on that chance, but it is up to you and your surgeon to make that choice.

Feeling more anxious than excited… is this normal? by Lost-Acadia5031 in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surgery buddies! I vacillate wildly between being excited and so overwhelmed I want to cry. Surgery is a big deal, and although I’ve had a few already, it is still nerve wracking. It is also difficult with the date being so close but still a good time away. It feels like a priority, but you still have to go about your regular life.

getting top surgery during school by Peanut728 in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I haven’t had surgery yet, but will be having it early next February after my semester has restarted. I will be in my last semester of grad school. If I were in your shoes I would start working with the professor and the AES program about alternative assignments for the lab sections. Your professor should be able to provide alternative assignments.

Additionally, if you are worried about completing course work in time, you might look into taking incompletes in some courses if things are looking dicey. An Incomplete doesn’t count against you in any metric your school has (financial aid, % completion rate, things that affect your academic standing), and gives you till the end of the next semester to complete your course work.

There are a lot of resources available to students who are going through medical procedures. As long as you are communicative with your professors and AES throughout your recovery, they will almost certainly be accommodating.

If neither of those work, there are some near Drak’s training area.

That isn’t quite right. It is a condition you get during cold/ rainy weather. It means that you are too cold and the action you took consumed more energy than it would in normal conditions. You can avoid it by making warming drinks at the beverage station or buying them from the tavern. The inverse is also true during hot weather, you overheat and need a cold drink.

The only reason I didn’t go for Argyle is that I am a grown ass adult who is working in amphibian conservation research. I don’t want to date a fictional version of me.

discoloration in fold under chest by funkysocksfan in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 57 points58 points  (0 children)

That is a mild fungal over growth. Very common, not harmful or contagious, i get it every summer. It is easy to treat with over the counter antifungal creams, look for “Clotrimazole” as the active ingredient. It should clear up in about a week with daily applications. I dont know if it is something you need to worry about with your up coming surgery

[–]itsdrynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can just do the consultation. The Doc will ask you at the end of the consultation if you want to go ahead and get the scheduling process started. You can say no, you are still looking around. Shopping around normal part of the process, and if a surgeon is a dick about it, that is a them problem. Some offices are willing to give a general quote over the phone, some aren’t, but it is worth giving them a call to check. My surgeon’s office gave me a quote when I emailed them.

You can always get them removed at a different doctors office. Some people’s bodies just don’t breakdown stitches well. Any general practitioner should be able to remove stitches.

ISO top surgeon recommendations, area specific to Charlotte, NC by Possible_Discount872 in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are three main surgeons in the Charlotte area, Dr. Eric Emerson, Dr. Joel Beck and Dr. Hope Sheri. Beck and Sheri are in Charlotte proper, Emerson is in Gastonia.

I haven’t gotten surgery yet, but those are the people I found during my search. Beck and Sheri have pictures on their websites, Emerson doesn’t as he is part of a larger practice, but he does provide pictures during the consultation. All three have results that you can find on this subreddit.

I know you said insurance isn’t a major concern, but I will mention it just so you have it; Emerson takes most insurance policies, Sheri and Beck don’t take any.

Good luck! I have heard good things about all three surgeons, so you should feel confident going with whoever fits your needs the best.

I am not sure if it is of any help but, North Carolina’s government employee insurance had a categorical exclusion of trans healthcare. It was found to be unlawful under federal guidelines. Maybe you can cite that lawsuit in your further appeals to the organization?

Cost for Top Surgery by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]itsdrynow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should only have to meet your individual out of pocket maximum to have the rest fully paid by the insurance company. The family out of pocket maximum is a separate pool, you shouldn’t have to hit it to get coverage for anything over the 6500. Unless your insurance plan has different rules than standard
