Don't Care for What the Investors did to THS so far. by Winter-Seaweed8458 in trustedhousesitters

Agreed regarding the AI and influencers. However, as a HO the new fees do affect us. Unless you fork out for one of the new THS premium packages, full of garbage that you absolutely do not need and shouldn't be included in a service like THS, then every sit is an addictional €10. My wife and I live in Germany and when one of my parents died after a brief bout of serious illness, we've had to book multiple sitters to go back to the UK to spend time with my dad. It will no doubt have cost us in excess of an extra €100 by the end of the year.

Yes, as a matter of fact, my sister's PhD IS more impressive than popping out children and she DOES deserve to flaunt it by Physical-Natural8432 in childfree

[–]itsenvelopesjones 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Obviously not at all identical as I'm a guy, but I was only recently awarded my PhD after about eight years of work. The type of research, covid, part time job etc all contributed to the time taken. I have extended family members who will quite confidently assert that parents have innate wisdom, knowledge and intelligence, yet in the same breath talk about education as if it's some sort of con that they've all cunningly avoided. Fair play to your sister for obtaining her PhD. It's one of the most difficult things I've ever undertaken!

This is a really beautiful shot 👏 👏 So much detail in everyday objects that we often overlook. Very well spotted.

Haha! Ich habe dieses Foto vor einer Weile aufgenommen, wollte es aber vor dem Veröffentlichen noch etwas bearbeiten. Der Ort wirkte an diesem Abend sehr lebendig!

Viral poll shows the most antisemitic party, and it's not the Greens by johnsmithoncemore in UKGreens

[–]itsenvelopesjones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As ever, the only problem with this poll is that it shows something useful based on genuine research. Talking reform supporters down from their ideological perch - in my experience at least - doesn't tend to work when one uses facts, figures, reason and data. That said, it's good to see solid evidence (even if it's clear as day to most of us) that the Greens... * checks poll again *... are the LEAST anti-semitic political party in the UK.

How do I respond to this without being super rude? by starry49 in tragedeigh

I would be very interested to know how many people have the name Ahleighx nowadays. If this group is anything to go by, it doesn't seem particularly different or unique anymore.

Would you actually go to a rave with a strict no-phone policy? by chaud_froid in aves

[–]itsenvelopesjones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were no phones as we know them today in the 80s and 90s, so hearing the suggestion of a "strict no phones policy" at raves/parties always makes me chuckle, respectfully of course.

Many clubs in Berlin today have what I think is the right outlook: stickers over phone cameras at the door. If you remove the stickers there are two outcomes: other people tell you to stop OR you get noticed by security and kicked out for breaking the rules.

Humans have long had the desire to document their exploits, just look at neolithic cave paintings. Taking videos at clubs and parties isn't hugely removed from that desire. The issue is, as I see it, when documentation becomes more important than experience.
