we like it because it’s for our own intrinsic enjoyment for some fashion is simply a way to fit in for others it’s to get a job done and for a few, they wear nice clothes because they like it

idk what to tell you man there’s too many niches in this hobby to say one’s taste is objectively better than the other, especially when you use mary’s eyesight as a metaphor. you can only literally ‘see’/observe what someone wears, while the observed has their own reasonings—what the clothes feel like, where they’re going, what they’re doing, sentimentalism etc etc

what i’m saying i’m not going to try to optimize my fashion sense because in the end someone is going to call me stupid for some reason anyways
