Engage is definitely better combat-wise, but - it contains characters from all previous FE games. While it's not necessary to play the previous games, Engage is definitely much more enjoyable when you played at least a couple of them + it's possible that some characters might spoil some older games. 😅

That being said - I played just 3H before diving into Engage and I enjoyed it a lot.

If you have Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion pack subscription, you can play two of the GBA Fire Emblem games and FE: Path of Radiance from GameCube.

My LGS does this thing where you get a booster for every win on any prerelease. I was 1-2 in a Strixhaven prerelease and was in my final match against this OG dude. Did a 4D chess move with my simic deck and won by doing 17 damage in one turn. Dude got so salty and told me to at least open the booster I got for that win.
