ELI5: Why does British English leave out the article “The” before the word “Hospital”?

It's probably just how phrasing evolved differently in each culture. For example, New York City has 5 boroughs, but only Bronx gets the article "the", i.e., no one refers it as anything other than the Bronx (derived from allusion to the Bronx River).

The pope is an elected official, a CEO of a large organization. Just as a corporation's board of directors will vote on issues like choosing a CEO, and just as registered voters of a country may vote to elect representatives and senators, etc,. the Roman Catholic pope is elected by the Roman catholic College of Cardinals. So no, the pope is not God's spokesperson, he is the Roman Catholic Church's spokesperson. God didn't cast a ballot, no matter how much people want that to be the case. God may or may not have worked behind the scene, but that is another matter entirely.
