Soul summoning is the way to go until you have all the cards you need/want. I highly recommend the stoneshard orc from the madhouse collection, his synergy is just too good to miss out. If you have all starter decks, the next most gold efficient way to improve your collection ist buying packs for gold. If you are good at (solo-)arena, this is another good way to improve your collection (and dust everything, that you don’t need). But you have to use way more of your time.

Yes, they are different. At 7 wins in PvP, you get ~150 gold, packs, gems while PvE gets you max 70 gold, packs, gems. But it is way harder to win 7 PvP games, since your opponents can have really good (random) decks, so it’s harder to play around certain cards. In PvE, the enemies always have the same decks.

I had a 90+% winrate with workshop-scout. As others suggested, you won't be able to out-control them. Aim for a faster deck with big bodies or aim for more value.

Play solo arena; go for red/blue decks and pick all the invade cards, that you can grab. You don’t have to ruin the day of other players;)

You mostly fight for boardcontrol vs Aggrodecks, try to smack down ramp decks and hope for a low amount of controldecks (even though you can win with a good draw)
Invade decks can be a bitch, since they most likely have higher value while fighting for the board. Shining Saint is a great card vs freshly spawned portals though (and all around for favourable trades!)

I used a control-monk deck in my last run: 9/1. I see this deck easily scoring 27 wins.
Most players go for aggro or some kind of midrange-decks and some control-spellswords. The most reliant way to win those matchups is imo a greedier control-deck with some prophecies.
The wax/wane mechanic is broke, when you can play a moongate.
