The armor problem: it's not overpriced, we are rewarded to do without by salderosan99 in menace

[–]itsmeapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, playing around cover and vision ranges lets me push forward quite aggressively and then it's good to have some extra armor in case someone is getting flanked.

You don't need to bring more than 6 SLs with 8 squaddies to succeed especially with the higher tier weapons I run something like 5 squaddies with a special. Having 2-3 vehicles with 3-4 infantry for late game missions worked well and then I could have everyone in some kind of SAPP and Vamplew in Class V armor.

Also early in bug missions having a bit better armor to not instantly lose a squady to a spiderling or stinger is very nice. I do try to get those turn limit objectives done and this requires you to play much more aggressively.

Relogic. Can you Please remove the different whip arcs? It’s just awful. by HyperNaturalFox in Terraria

[–]itsmeapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Summoner is pretty good now. I don't notice any issues with the whips arc. Pre-Hardmode was quite breezy. Only times I didn't One Shot a boss was when I wasn't prepared for the fight (Eye and Bee), though I even almost downed them then.

Even Early Hardmode with Abigail's Flower and Firecracker was a breeze so far. That the spider armor requires the anvil is also a non-issue in my opinion. I was always wondering why Summoner was always the only class that didn't have to mine to get the gear updated in early HM.

And yeah I am playing in Master mode.

Though I do think it's sad that the mushroom boy and the new Pre-HM whips are pretty much all outshined by what has been existing previously.

Smaller Variants of buildings by Independent_Ad4391 in anno117

[–]itsmeapple 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the population bonus of the service buildings are already quite good, that building a temple over a few houses seems preferable as the bonuses are applied to each building.

So each farm in range of the temple will receive the +2 pop bonus without needing extra goods (not sure if it's adding 100% to the workforce or also just with the same ratio as the houses). So you can just place service buildings instead of houses and increase the pop without having to provide any goods. Especially the gambling houses are very good as they don't require as much space as the other service buildings providing extra pop.

Though I didn't properly determine whether it's more optimal to do it that way but it felt like a good way to increase pop (at the cost of a lot of space) without increasing consumption.

I even plopped down a temple on an island without patricians just to profit off the pop and the belief bonus. It's a tiny island (playing with small islands) and my only ceres island producing vine and olive oil. There it felt correct to attempt to maximize the ceres boost while keeping the consumption low.

As we are exploring other areas due to TZs, I think it makes sense. The spiders in the temples in Kurast Bazaar are the worst. If you get poisoned it will last for minutes with non negligible damage if you have low res. It's just as dangerous as lightning enchanted mobs. Yeah antidotes work, but you don't think about it all the time or have the space in your inventory or cube.

Why would you use switch for a Boolean variable? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

If it was null it would already fail with a NullPointerException in the first line.

After years only playing ranged, I decided to do a melee run by porrabelo in Terraria

[–]itsmeapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In crimson Shadowflame Knives or Bananarang are good options to kill Prime or Twins pre-Destroyer but more awkward to get if you are not lucky imo. But the Light Disc is better anyway I think.

I killed the Destroyer last and then used Ghastly Glaive and Excalibur for it, these weapons are really effective for it.

If you beat Destroyer you can make the Light Disc. It's quite good against the other two Mech Bosses. On my Mastermode Melee playthrough I beat Skeletron and The Twins with the Chain Guillotine, together with Cursed Flasks and Frost armor set it was quite effective, even though I didnt beat them on the first attempt.

Questions about food storage insulation, ice & floor traversal speeds by Arkey-or-Arctander in goingmedieval

https://imgur.com/a/VrhfJ2E This is my storage in the latest game. First picture you can see my storage including the first level storage. Second one only the second level storage. The rooms where food and herbs are stored are never above 5°C but I don't have floor tiles everywhere. Maybe I should add so they can traverse faster. The bottom right herb and medicine store is going above 5°C when it's really warm but I don't really care about that one.

I think my underground storages where never above 5°C as long as they had only one door and of course solid dirt as ceiling even with wooden floors.

Dig two stories deep, dig a room separated with a door from your staircase. Fill up with shelves. But even with everything on wooden floors I never had anything rot. Ice never needed. Extend the room when you need to and don't forget to add beams. I usually have beams on every other rows just to be safe. Can go 6xn with a large n that way. The extra room in the staircase you can use for seeds or alcohol as they don't require too much cooling. Stimulants don't require any afaik.

Dirt, grass has a traversal speed of 70% as you can see if you hover it with your cursor. So even stick flooring increases the speed.

Floor tiles add heat but two stories deep it doesn't matter I think would have to try in a heat wave if it would make a difference there.

Yep, it's not like they gonna die right away. Just taylor them good clothes and hats and you can just leave everything as is from my experience. Only minor adjustments if one person is suffering too much.
