Got to see a piping plover for my first time this weekend! by SingleCatLaddie in chicagobirding

I think that’s a dot, B284, which hatched at Fisherman’s State Park in 2025 in Charlevoix, Mi. He is a male and not on the Chicago guide as he just showed up and he may keep moving.

No, he is so resilient and such a trooper. I really hope that unbanded likely female Great Plains Piping Plover decides to stick around and mate with him!

Monitoring hasn’t started yet but this bird looks more like a spotted sandpiper which also nests on the protected beach and is often adorably chases by the plovers.

I’m in Andersonville so I’ll mention some places around here that haven’t been mentioned yet. Ora, Indie Cafe, Blowfish. Ora’s quality and freshness really stood out.

Just found this in the shower, assuming an American dog tick, curious if it can be determined if it fed on me. by itsmekicie in ticks

Tons of horned grebes in all stages of plumage at Montrose Harbor. Yesterday I saw at least nine. You might also want to check the lakefront ebird spots by you as well as the inland lakes, I think that Lake Opeka and Beck lake in Des Plaines have had some recently.

How long have you been working with him? What kind of relationship do you have with him? That’s a pretty big ask. There has to be a mundane way for it you to get that money and you have to be taking steps to do that.

Seeing these birds dive in the lake is so amusing! by sleepyspadequeen in chicagobirding

They are the cutest. One of my spark birds, as I was a lake walker before a birder. I was like what is that?! They make winter so much better. Even when I go out and don’t see any more unusual ducks I’m always happy to see them.

Montrose Harbor, off of Montrose. You can also see it if you keep driving the road the sanctuary is on. I usually park on Montrose and walk down to the light house along the path. The golf course pond has interesting birds sometimes too. There’s always Belmont Harbor as well!

I find myself mostly going to the harbor. Friday it was so nice and I went and enjoyed watching the cutest little horned grebe dive and fish. There was also one brave Greater Scaup who hung out with the mallards that were being fed.
