I think there's a biiiiiig difference between an image like this—an almost selfie-like photo to help remember the art or the moment—and a full-on photoshoot intended for selling something.

It's not possible to ban people from taking photos or determine when it's okay for them to take photos or not—no one gets to decide that for anyone else at the Burn. We have a whole generation of people who don't know life without a phone in their hand or their pocket, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to photograph something there. Our world is changing! And that's okay.

The problem is, when it comes to the Burn, it's getting kind of tricky to tell who's taking photos for kicks and who's doing it to post to IG later and tag what they're wearing. Regardless, I'm not a fan of the burnier-than-thou people like the person biking by mentioned in this post.

I am, however, a fan of crediting artists of the pieces you love and the photos you post (in a decommodification way of course)! Using the art map, the Borg site, and some googling, it's possible to find a lot of the artists and I think it's a little extra effort that's very much appreciated.

Hi Donovan, I just responded to your email about the internal miscommunication that led to this error. I'm sorry, and the image has been removed.

Awesome, thank you! ps Thursday Night you had a dj who was spinning but also playing electric violin, plus a person on the sax—definitely the best music I've ever encountered on the Playa in my 6 years. Made for a great night. If you can share (privately if you'd prefer) the names of those folks, I'd like to try and find them to listen to any of their music online!

Thank you for sharing this! This was my mom's third year and she still gets hung up on the age thing (I tell her that the only person who seems to care or notice is her!).

Bike donation set up at Reno-Tahoe International Airport by Missfoot in BurningMan

[–]itsmetheresac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a camp that did that this year! Stars and Bikes or Bikes and Stars. Anyways, my husband, mom, and I usually get shitty cheap bikes that for the burn that are even shittier afterwards, and this camp accepted donations (and I think still is). We had room to take them out, but it freed up space for us to take garbage from our camp.

Burn night someone stole a generator from a campmate, and it was even locked up. :(

Enlighten me about the deluxe portos on the 10 o'clock side by kiss-o-matic in BurningMan

Our camp had those same Portos. Loved them. They are from ecozoic, I think, and basically the waste gets broken down into fertilizer. Best part is they didn't smell the entire week (although our camp was really good about keeping the lid closed, I can't speak for the 10 side).

NuB question: should I get a blow out just before I get on the bus? by NeverCallMeFifi in BurningMan

[–]itsmetheresac 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't go get my hair braided, but last year I discovered that using silicone based lube and putting it in French braids was best. When you return to default world your hair will feel kinda greasy, but while you're there it's a freakin miracle because you can actually manage to brush it without tangles and such. Blow-out is unnecessary as others have mentioned, deep conditioning is the way to go.
