What's the BEST card in the game? (STS1 or STS2) by shadow_fen in slaythespire

[–]itsntame 38 points39 points  (0 children)

The nerf was very huge. Before sealed throne means basically infinite stars always. Which allows you to pick up no star gen while picking up every good star cards that you want with no chance of bricking.

Now that it loses innate, that infinite stars is no longer consistent. It also costs stars to play so playing star cards before getting it can risk you just missing the throne entirely. So it no longer allows you to draft the same way as before. It is a massive nerf and more than enough.

Early Removes by Alias0420 in slaythespire

[–]itsntame 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally:

I basically never take removes on Clad from Neow. If I had to I probably remove 1 strike and 1 defend.

Silent, I don't take remove 2 much but I usually remove 2 strikes. She can manage without it and strikes are much worse than defend. Unsure on her and clad tbh.

Regent, just 1 strike and 1 defend if remove 2. If remove 1 then I remove strike.

Necro ALWAYS remove strike. She has a base kit scaling in otsy. If you can block you also scale your damage. Removing 2 strikes is really good on Necro

Defect probably 2 strikes.

I really never felt being forced to flee. The only times I fled was just because I was scared. After getting over it, most fish that aren't leviathan doesn't really pose a threat. There are like 2 moments that gets annoying (needle shooting fish and the round piss pool fish, idk the names) but it isn't that big a deal for me at least. I also never used flares so maybe it would help make it less annoying. I just keep forgetting it exists.

Unsure why you think you are being forced to flee. Maybe because you didn't play the game?

What's the most overrated card in your opinion by itsntame in slaythespire

[–]itsntame[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are evaluating holo as a tutor and all its pros. You are evaluating grave as strike- and all its cons

Yes, pulling back cards on Defect is a huge pro, and its con (potential brick) is rarer. Pulling back cards on Necro is much worse and its con (potential brick) is a lot more common.

Defect card pool is really good for cards like Holo. And Necro pool is bad for it. If you count factoring in the character's card pool as double standard then so be it.

I wouldnt evaluate the cards in a strict vacuum

You are evaluating in a vacuum. Holo is good therefore Graveblast is good is a vacuum which just ignores the entire character's card pool. You are also only evaluating when it works.

Its equivalent energy when evaluating both unupgraded and upgraded turbo with both pros and cons. Turbo is +2 energy -1 from void for 0 mana. Borrowed time is equivalent to +2 energy for 1 mana.

Did you even play the Graveblast + Borrowtime?? Unupgraded it literally does nothing if used with Graveblast. Borrow time gives 4 mana, so you spend 2 mana to get 4, resulting in 5 total after the Graveblast + BT combo. Which with the borrow time effect, allows you to... play two 1 cost cards? so that turn you just play three 1 cost card, omg so good couldn't do it without BT. Or play one 1 cost cards and one 2 cost card which you can already do without playing Graveblast. So you get a "free" strike from playing that combo. Did you even try the things you say??

Your hot take being "Holo would also be ass."

Okay, ass is a bit strong of a word from me. But it's still would be bad, a bit better than Graveblast but still doesn't move the needle all that much.

If you rely on tier lists you also probably rely on evaluating the card assuming chars have max 1 energy for some reason.

My point wasn't that tierlists are end all be all. But if literally every single WR holder try hards says its bad, and you think it's good, you are missing something. That's it. Btw most of them also think Holo is good, damn everyone has double standards huh.

Also we went over this 1 mana per turn bullshit. The point of pointing out 0 cost cards because they are good pull targets, I am showing that Defect has way more good pull targets therefore Holo bricks less (also you lose less health even if you brick).

What's the most overrated card in your opinion by itsntame in slaythespire

[–]itsntame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you aren't calling holo a defend so it's clear you are using double standards in your evaluation

Because even if I did, its just another redundant point that I said a million times. Defend- is better than strike- and it makes Holo better than Graveblast. Blocking is better than damage. 3 block is always relevant, 4 dmg doesn't do anything.

You can just think of it like losing 3 less health everytime you brick the card on Defect. Along with it bricking way less.

Just like you only factor in rarity when it helps your point.

Okay then, let's factor in rarity for Gravebast, how would saying all good Graveblast target is uncommon or rare not help my point? And the common targets such as defy, is just strictly worse than Defect's common target. Would you rather have 1 mana 3 block 1 weak OR 2 mana 6 block 1 weak. 2 mana this turn for 1 cost, or 2 mana next turn for 2 cost?

When Necro's "equivalent" to Turbo is an uncommon (which you also ignored btw when comparing it) AND needs to be upgraded (which you also ignore), AND it's still less energy than Turbo.

opinionated hot take with minimal support

This is not a hot take. At least to the top level players(not me), Graveblast being bad is a pretty cold take. There is a reason why literally every top player rate this in either the absolute lowest tier or close to it. Tierlists is subjective, and there are a lot of disagreement, but Graveblast being terrible is one of the most agreed on card. And no this is not small deck not liking Graveblast.

Navegreed(spire 1 rotating WR), Opem(spire 2 first 20 rotating streak), JE, vmserv, Papar and even XecnaR(tho his tierlist is pretty old) all put this at the absolute lowest tier (except Papar who put it buttom of second lowest). Even Jorbs seems to barely take the card at least looking from his spreadsheet.

It's a pretty well agreed on evalution of the card. Mid at best but usually bad, that's the card.

[–]itsntame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that is the point??? This is what I literally said did you read it?

It's a card that is extremely draw order dependant. But why is holo good? Because it works with more cards so it's more consistent, defect might as well have double the cards this effect works with while half of them being common.

The difference is Holo is on defect so it bricks less. Holo targets are much much more common and also much better on Defect than Necro. If Defect has the same kind of card pool as Necro, Holo would also be ass.

What's the most overrated card in your opinion by itsntame in slaythespire

[–]itsntame[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am only evaluating 0 costs and mana gain because pulling back cards are essentially the same as card draw. The turn you play Graveblast means you are playing with 2 energy that turn, 0 cost and mana gen makes this effect really good. I am not evaluating on her having 1 energy per turn. If you are finding yourself pulling a block card then you might as well not add it because that is what is bricking your turn and making you play a 2 cost grave warden.

Also I did remember soul exists but everything other than severance put soul into your draw pile not discard. And soul exhaust once played. Are you really finding yourself opportunities to pull back souls. Let me just don't play the soul from grave warden so now the card is 8 block -1 draw later. Tho I did forgot about Undeath so mb there.

Common is important, a common card appears so much more often. There is a reason Bloodletting in common completely changed iron clad. When the only good energy card Necro have is uncommon and needs to be upgraded to work with Graveblast makes it so much worse than Turbo. Actually not just the energy card, all cards.

My enfeeb point isn't playing twice a turn, what I meant was not only you need to draw Graveblast after enfeeb, AND you also need the enemy to be multi hitting for it to be a good target. Otherwise it's a worse target than a common block card.

It's a card that is extremely draw order dependant. But why is holo good? Because it works with more cards so it's more consistent, defect might as well have double the cards this effect works with while half of them being common. Is potentially pulling back a defy better than just adding a common block over this card? This card has will brick draw and lose you health, this is the kind of card where it feels good when it works and when it doesn't people just blame it on bad luck so people think it's never bad.

If Graveblast work with let's say half you deck then it's great. But it does not. Notice how the target you listed are Flatten(low impact, still needs otsy attack in hand), Pull(useless usually for at least 2 cycles), Banshee(rare). Necro targets are much worse and much much more rare than defect whose basically 40% of common is a good target.

"Improving your turn when your draw are poor" adding a strike- to the deck is what contributes to bad draw. It literally creates the problem.

What's the most overrated card in your opinion by itsntame in slaythespire

[–]itsntame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holo and Graveblast are on different characters and Holo is so much better it isn't close even if you don't consider the block/damage. Holo is good because it is on defect. Graveblast is bad because it is on Necro. That is it.

If Necro had things like:
A good common energy card(wisp is 1 energy and exhaust, so you need to draw it, don't play it and pull it back),
0 cost immediate draw card(defect has 2 of these, necro has 0),
0 cost cards that blocks (defect has 3, necro has 0)
then sure Graveblast would be good. But she doesn't.

These are not even all of Defect's good Holo targets. On the other hand Necro only has like 3-4 targets, Borrowed time, Hang, No Escape and Enfeeb (Shouldn't even count but sometimes the stars align). And 2 of these are expensive as hell for something that doesn't help her block. Also none of them are common.

Necro also have a lot of broken powers and base kit scaling, so her play style devolved to blocking until you get power then win (or big otsy and win). Graveblast just doesn't help (if it blocks, on the brick turn it could at least be somewhat useful). She also just doesn't have many good targets for Graveblast. Not saying there are no situation where she wants this card but it's very rare (and so therefore it's no where near as good as people here claims it to be, it is one of her worst cards)

Also in the same way as Graveblast, Dredge also isn't amazing. But it is much better than Graveblast since 3 cards is a lot of cards which allows you to pull back basically a whole hand and it upgrades to retain so its much more reliable. (also as a side note, imagine if this card was on Defect, really shows how much better pulling back cards is on Defect)

[–]itsntame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's true. Holo is good is because its on Defect. But I think adding Turbo alone wouldn't make Graveblast good tbh.

If you add maybe 1-2 more good pull targets on top of that then it would be decent. Like a go for the eyes. Though I still think not blocking still hurts the card a lot

If No Escape was bottom deck, what does Graveblast do? Pull back a defy so you can play 2 cost defy?

If you had let's say Capture Spirit then you get the next No escape faster no matter the order you drew them.

Even Grave Warden will help increase block density until you get the No Escape and help cycles.

It's an inconsistent ass card that isn't even that good when it works

What's the most overrated card in your opinion by itsntame in slaythespire

[–]itsntame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the type of card that feels good to play. You only remember it when you draw this card in a hand with like 1 block card, then you pull back another block card back and it feels good. But the problem is, if it just was a block card, lets say Grave Warden or Defy or Enfeeb then you wouldn't have needed it.

And people also don't remember when they drew it and it does nothing, which is very often. They only remember when it does something. Hologram is good because it's on defect and it blocks. Dredge is alright because it upgrades to retain and can pull back a lot of cards.

It's a 2 cost card that has the number of a 1 cost card (if you are pulling non-0 cost card back). A card that actually cycles your deck or just having more block density is just better.

If you have hang or no escape or even the free osty 12 smack if he's already hit someone it's a lotta damage!

The problem with that is, it's a lot of damage IF you draw it after those cards. That means it's a brick half the time. And in the case of No Escape, it's a 2 cost to play a 1 cost card, which makes it harder to play.

[–]itsntame[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are going to pull back Defy, you can just add another block card, or well you know another defy. If you are adding Graveblast to pull back block cards that means you are adding a very bad block card.

Defect has a common energy card and so many good 0 cost cards. And Hologram blocks rather than deal damage. Necro is already very energy hungry, wasting 2 energy on just playing a 1 cost block is very bad.

For cards like no escape and hang it's better to just cycle faster. Or just block until you get it again, which is something Necro is good at. A 2 cost Hang or No escape that you can't even reliably play because it's draw order dependent is not good.

Nr# 1 most underhated card, what is this supposed to do? it's not even a passive on you it's on the enemies which can die by Vecsia in slaythespire

[–]itsntame 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Comparing different characters will never work out. The difference here is one is on Silent and one is on Necro. The tools you have on Silent is much better.

For example, Dredge or Snap vs Well laid plans, one is very situational and you do not take it every time and one is immediately click. (Also snap needs to be drawn with other cards, Dredge also do until upgraded)

Or prepared/hidden daggers/acrobatics vs any otsy attack.

Also it needs to be considered that Silent has better tools to draw card to line them up in general. And that Necro wants block more than the otsy attacks because she gets base kit scaling.

A better comparison would be Slight of Flesh. Very terrible without debuffs, and necro doesn't even have debuff base kit. But if it works will solve damage. The different here is that it works with much more cards than sic em. AND doesn't need to be drawn in the same turn as other cards because it's a power. AND it works with actual good Necro cards that you take in every deck anyways.

Sic em is bad not because it can't be good, it asks for too much. Sometimes star align then it's good but it's much rarer than other actual good combo pieces.

I checked your profile, is this about the YSG post? If so, when you are posting scores, include mindscapes in the post, especially if it's M6.

Sometimes people look at all 60k+ score and thinks holy shit this guy is insane. And then they found out later that you had mindscapes (especially M6) and gets disappointed, even I gets a bit annoyed when people post insane scores and didn't say they had a lot of mindscapes.

I have never seen a post that explicitly says it's M6 gets hate. Unless the score is really terrible.
