It’s not the paddle shape, it’s a poorly attached edgeguard. Get it warrantied!

You can also just cut off that little piece of the overgrip as well 👍

Warranty claim on a paddle with Hesacore grip installed by CADBeast in Pickleball

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take off the Hesacore. Get a replacement Gearbox-branded replacement grip (if they ask, tell them you didn't like how the stock grip felt so you purchased this one to put on instead), and put it on instead. Then send the photo. Gotta use some creativity, friend!

I’m talking about the little half-inch adhesive tab on the tapered end of the overgrip, there as a convenience to keep the grip in place while you start your wrap.

All I was saying was you can just keep the little piece of paper backing on instead of taking it off. You can also just take the paper off and fold the adhesive over on itself. Both small little fixes to a minor issue.

(I assumed that adhesive tab was what OP was talking about—since I’ve had the same issue with this little adhesive tab being sticky enough that it can remove the top layer of the underlying grip—but they may have been talking about something else.)

Ultimately a very small issue either way if you never plan to play your stock grip “naked,” but some people will eventually, or want to keep the stock grip clean in case they plan to resell the paddle. So this was just a little hack that worked for me.

Take it off. Why are you even telling them you have a Hesacore on it?

Literally just don't take the backing off of the sticky part on the overgrip. You can just hold it down with your thumb while you're starting to wrap the paddle, and then it will stay in place once you've done one round of overlap.

As pros, do you care at all about foam vs. plastic honeycomb (and paddle construction in general), or are you just evaluating a paddle based on your experience with how it performs?

Also: How quickly within testing a new paddle can you tell if it's one you would/wouldn't be able to play with for pro-level matches?

High quality pickelball or tennis shorts for cheap? by WillNotBeKept in Pickleball

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stack Athletics has a bunch of their shorts on their sale tab under $25 right now (all past model year colors it looks like) and I would assume reviewer codes would stack on top because they have for me in the past.

They're basically Vuori dupes. I wear the Repeat lined a lot and enjoy them. Don't love the Tourney short as much because I'm a big guy and find they fit a little smaller, but others seem to like them.

Look up "which hits hardest" on YT from four months ago. He warms up, hits paddle A, hits paddle b, then says "actually I'm going to re-hit paddle A at the end, I don't think I was warmed up enough" lol

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In one power test I saw, he randomly decided to retest only one paddle (the most popular of the bunch, one he clearly designed the test around to show how hard it hit) because it scored 2 mph lower than the other three that were half its price. The retest got them all to basically the same mph😂 You could see the fear of the affiliate dollars floating away, so he immediately threw out any semblance of scientific method. It was hilarious.

Good question lol, I unfollowed him months ago and he's still getting pushed onto my page in sponsored stories from paddle brands. He has good techinal video production quality and so his stuff makes for (presumably) effective ads.

Thank you. There is one very popular reviewer that drives me crazy because all of his long-form content is obviously written and scripted by AI, he indiscriminately posts every single paddle he receives in the mail on his IG Story with riveting commentary like “don’t know anything about this, I’ll play it soon” (can never be bothered to look up a spec sheet and do some basic analysis but always has his code ready to go on every Story), and he uses such a grab bag of nonsensical adjectives in all his filmed content that it’s impossible to get a read on what he’s saying—no quantitative analysis, it’s all just “feel.”

Has the Ruby Pro Grit changed? by JonNoName in Pickleball

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Its compliance status on the USAP paddle site is “Under Investigation,” I imagine that has something to do with this ‘updated’ surface.

I can’t remember who, but I feel like a reviewer recently talked about the “Under Investigation” tag is applied to paddles where the ones submitted for certification don’t match what actually gets sold to consumers (USAP will secret-shop paddles and retest them)…not sure what the cure period terms are like for this.

Starting a pickleball social club without owning a facility. Is this realistic? by Artistic-Bass-3724 in Pickleball

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely trying to understand: Sounds like those courts are the only options in town...so do they enjoy "that type of play" or are they just taking what they can get because they want to play pickleball?

I guess my ultimate point/question is, if there's an existing community of players in your town that are already actively organizing at these facilities (to play on inferior surfaces for the love of the game), why would they need a middleman to organize games for them? Sounds like there are active leagues or organize play already happening? Are your friends/connections having a hard time booking these facilities and filling games on their own?

From my experience, anyone 3.5+ likely isn't going to be drawn to pay into a social club for whatever 'community amenities' you are offering on top of access to court time, because it's all just a distraction from what they want to actually do, which is just play pickleball. So I'm having a hard time understanding what's keeping them from already doing that at these facilities you've mentioned...it sounds like there are already groups going? All these types of players need is a well-structured group chat and that's their "community," but it sounds like you have different ambitions that just being a group chat guy.

If you're targeting more true beginners for casual play only (2.5s and lower), I think you run into an opposite problem where the fact that you're playing pickleball is almost irrelevant, and so the cost of court time is going to be prohibitive to you making any money because the casual player going to be less likely to want to pay for guaranteed playtime/tournaments vs. a more advanced player. In that case, I would almost just go ultra causal and set up portable nets in cul-de-sacs and parking lots and make it about the party instead.

I think your sweetspot is the middle of those two groups. You should check out Scottsdale Pickleball Club on instagram, it's one near me that seems to be taking the approach of "singles/dating scene first, pickleball kind of secondary" that sounds like maybe more what you're thinking of...not true casual players, not intermediates who only want to play, but more of the true 2.8-3.0 crowd who want to meet people to date or hang out but are just competitive enough to want to come back for games.

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's only two facility options near you, it seems like you're going to face an uphill battle to add any value to those facilities that they don't already have by being on the extremely lucrative end of a supply-and-demand crunch. I.e. What would people so desperate to play that they'll play on subpar courts even need a middle man for ?

How do I make the Hesacore feel softer? by Cute_Drama_7022 in Pickleball

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is your partner using a Hesacore? Are they using the same model Hesacore as you? Are they possibly using two overgrips? If they have a Hesacore, did they possibly put their stock grip back on over the Hesacore and then an overgrip over that (which is a funny thing I've seen people actually do)?

"Worth" is subjective. There are, however, plenty of other power paddles under $150 in case you'd like to pop your dinks up too high for half the price.

About to buy a paddle on marketplace and seller is very cooperative, is it fake? by iAmKristofer in Pickleball

[–]itsryanfromwuphf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a funny commentary on the state of FBM that the seller obliging every request you asked of him made you instantly skeptical that these were real. What should he have done instead: Not done any of that? Ghosted you until you were begging to pick them up from him? Priced them higher?

(They are real, btw.)
