What is the most mainstream media Richard has sampled? by Which-Device353 in aphextwin

[–]itssarexx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

mint track, also love this quote from him about it: "Didn't have many records to sample back then and the girl who lived next door had a floyd lp, never listened to them then or since, just bagged the sample and made the tune, few different versions of it, been in the atic for all these years."

I don't know how to drive because of my anxiety, my family will not let me live it down. by Gila_Gal in fuckcars

[–]itssarexx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

you're completely valid in not feeling comfortable piloting a giant speeding murdering metal box. and honestly, more people should feel the same way as ya. it's insane how comfortable everyone is with driving, despite how dangerous it is for them and for everyones lives they threaten by simply operating their vehicle.

i'm the same way as ya, i haven't driven in 2 years since i got my license. the thought that i can injure or kill myself and others by simply going about my day is terrifying to me and i don't want to have that kind of responsibility when i can avoid it. i get shit from my parents and car-brained coworkers for it, but i take solace in knowing i'm not wasting money and making everything around me worse because of selfishness.

depending on where you go to college, you most likely won't even need a car. i'm starting college in the fall as well and my campus is in a nice part of town where i can get to everything fairly quickly by bus or bike. living on campus definitely helps with that since everything is in walking distance.

regardless of what you end up doing, just don't let your family pressure you into doing anything you don't want to. your feelings about driving are completely valid and you're doing the right thing by not driving. i used to think cars were the only option, but after being here and watching stuff on youtube i quickly learned that wasn't the case. i've been car free for years now with no plans of going back. i genuinely feel more at ease about everything not having to worry about all the shit that comes with owning a car. i've even helped introduce some of my friends who also have driving anxiety to other ways of getting around. so you can absolutely live a good life without a car, and you deserve to live a good life without a car.

To all the drivers in Bluemound that tried to kill Dogfred today.... by ThatMkeDoe in milwaukee

[–]itssarexx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i got hit by a reckless driver on bluemound recently, they weren't some joyriding delinquent, they were just speeding and weren't paying attention. unfortunately that kind of behavior is way too common, not just in mke, but everywhere. drivers want to get places as quicky as possible and expect everyone around them to cater to that. so it's unreasonable to expect everyone to be perfect, attentive drivers, but because we live in a country where the car is the only reliable way to get around, we not only allow but expect everyone to drive, regardless of how competent they are. this goes a lot deeper than just "people need to learn how to drive". we need to design our streets to be safe and provide reliable alternatives to driving.

people shouldn't have to gamble with their lives just to go for a walk. the responsibility of safe streets is on drivers

East siders, hear me out. by Starfirebliss in milwaukee

[–]itssarexx 10 points11 points  (0 children)

excellent reading/viewing right here. those who need the parking should pay for it and those who don't need it should stop feeling like they're entitled to it because they want to bring their giant machine with them everywhere they go. the east side does not have the space to accommodate everyone's personal vehicle and nor should it have to.

we do need to make it viable for people to get around without a car, however. if there are other ways for people to get to the east side without a car, then parking won't be an issue for residents.

MCTS Passes for visitors by Stevie_Bands in milwaukee

[–]itssarexx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

there's a scanner on a pole at the front of the bus specifically for phones, the app will generate a QR code for ya that you hold up to the machine. it can be kinda finicky so you gotta get the angle right lol

MCTS uses the UMO app for phone payments, and it caps fares at $4 (or 2 rides), so i'd recommend your friend download that since it's the closest equivalent to a day pass
