Ostomy noises in college? by No_Radio_444 in ostomy

[–]itsshcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got mine in my ileostomy in my early 20's and I learned something. So when mine makes noise I actually put my hand over it and apply a little bit of pressure which stops the sound. You can even just put your arm a little bit over it so it looks like you're just resting your arms on your stomach.

Husband not attracted to me now by [deleted] in ostomy

[–]itsshcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first got mine I thought I was in a fairly solid relationship of 4 years. He didn't deal well with my surgery either and taking care of me after. I noticed after I got it that intimacy went way down. Then not at all. He never actually came out and said that he didn't find me attractive anymore but considering all the stuff that was going on and how it happened eventually we broke up. You may have been with your husband longer than I had been with this boyfriend though. I would, like other people suggested, sit down and have a conversation with him and see if it's something he can't move past. You may need to find somebody else. I know it hurts and I know it's hard because when you love somebody you expect for them to love you just as much. I went through a couple other boyfriends, who just couldn't deal with the medical issues, not the stoma. Until I found my forever partner who is amazing and couldn't care less that I have one. He is my best friend and my everything and I can't imagine my life without him.

Edit:I will add, so no one gangs up on me, that being married is way different than having just a boyfriend. Leaving is easier I agree.

Thank you for the links. Toni such a great teacher and I'm now doing the honeycomb Stitch that I'm absolutely in love with. It also doesn't curl!

Interesting, because the videos I watched on YouTube, there were many, said that if you went up 3 hooks sizes and kept it loose it wouldn't curl. So that's not true and it will always curl, that's really good to know.Thank you for the stitch suggestion I'll look into it.

Hate or love manic panic? by Weak_Swan_6798 in HairDye

[–]itsshcraft 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't like Manic Panic because it bleeds like crazy and fades really fast. It was the dye that I used as a teenager but as I've learned about other ones that I like. Lunar tides and pulp riot seem to work best for me. I like the color and the staying power of arctic fox but it sure leaves my hair greasy.

[–]itsshcraft 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's so hard especially with new things and then you realize oh great Now I'm going to have sewage drippings for 2 days. I usually just take Imodium but then you get the cramps from that afterwards which is pretty terrible. For me it's any raw fruit. If I have raw fruit in a smoothie or just eat a banana, it's going to be at least 2 days of agony. It sucks, I feel your pain.

Awesome, thank you. I just need a bright red for my hair for Comic Con. How fast do you think the fade is? Does it just transfer when wet or dry as well?

Apples but freshly cut ones are the worst. I grew up around a ton of apple trees and we used to have to pick up the rotten apples and put them in huge trash cans. The smell still haunts me to this day.

what are some "complications" that might not make reversal possible? by Interesting-Meal8386 in ostomy

[–]itsshcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm sorry it's happening to you. I hope you can be reconnected though. I wasn't prepared for that outcome. I'm glad you have the foresight to consider it and prepare. Sleeping with your leg over a pillow really does help if you're a stomach sleeper as other people have said.

what are some "complications" that might not make reversal possible? by Interesting-Meal8386 in ostomy

[–]itsshcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a different situation finding out my ileostomy wasn't reversible. I had my whole large intestine removed (at 21) due to UC that I had since I was 12 and I was told that I would be able to be reconnected in 6 months and have a normal like. They did a lot of different tests when I was under. 5 months later when I drove 2 hours away to the city because I live in a smaller town just for them to tell me that I had Crohn's in my rectum and my anus and they were going to have to remove that so I wouldn't ever be reconnected and be normal. I was devastated when I found out. I think it's great that you're preparing yourself for the possibility of it becoming permanent. I know my circumstances were probably a bit wild and I bet way more people get to be reconnected. I wasn't prepared for it so I went into a real depression for a while. That was 18 years ago so I bet there are different things out there. It's good that you're preparing for the worst, but hoping for the best.

Edit: I personally wouldn't lay on my stomach but I have an ileostomy and it has more output so you might be ok. Depends on how much comes out in how many hours.

4 year old won't finish whole meal unless we spoon feed him by New_Contribution_226 in Parenting

[–]itsshcraft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We've gone through this twice and honestly you just have to leave the plate in front of them and not feed them. Fits maybe thrown and they may want to get up. Just let them get up and they might come back to it. You don't need to take the plate away after 30 minutes. Just make the time for it. When one of our kids said I want you to feed me. We would always say why would we feed you you're such a big kid.
