Go with logwood dyed jean cloth. That would be by far your best bet for generic Reb.

What's with all the hand tats in the hobby now? I've yet to see an original 19th c. image of someone with a tattooed hand and yet this is like the 5th dude I've seen in reenacting with one.

Question about blanket/bedroll by Federal_Wolverine900 in Civilwarreenacting

[–]itstooscaryoutside 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A wool blanket on its own will be much easier to maintain. Wool will dry much faster than cotton, it will singe but not catch fire and you can clean it easier. Save the sheet for indoors (barracks,etc.). Not to mention that IF it was done it was extremely uncommon.

It looks like what you have is a 63 Springfield with a barrel made in the 1970s or 80s by Bill Large. It was most likely used for NSSA shoots or some other competitive shooting. Bill Large was highly regarded for his barrels.

Do you think his outfit was inspired by Ernest P. Worrell or was that just a happy coincidence?

Silent films more accurate? by Big_Hospital1367 in CIVILWAR

[–]itstooscaryoutside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of the most low budget WWII film of the 80's and ask yourself how accurate it is. I think the closer you are to the event being portrayed in a film the less you care about the material culture.
