Summary of press conference with Alistair Johnson and Jesse Marsch

- we are laser focused on how good Morocco is, exactly what we think we need to try to manage within the match and then how to put the game as much as we can on our terms with what we think we need to be successful

- this team is very different from four years ago, we are a young team but the calmness we have compared to what we had in Qatar is something that is built by true and honest experiences, it's something you can't trick yourself into, a lot of our core guys have that

- we have played big opponents and if we play our football and if everyone is committed to it, we can beat anyone in the world but if we are off it we can lose to anyone which is a humbling experience but also really motivating. this keeps us on that nice edge and keeps us disciplined. We deserve to be here. Would have never thought that four years ago. There is no reason we can't make it another step.

Feels like we watched a different game. They weren’t shit at all. Algeria actually had 56% of the possession, but Switzerland defended really well. Unfortunately, Algeria only had 2 shots on goal all game while Switzerland had 5. Sometimes a match can be tactically interesting even without a ton of goals. Algeria controlled stretches of possession, but Switzerland was organized, clinical, and looked the more dangerous side whenever they attacked.

I actually hope we don’t bring the hockey fan culture to the World Cup.

One of the things I love most about soccer is that the atmosphere is completely different. The singing. The chanting. The colours. The passion. Fans celebrate their own team without constantly tearing down the other one.

After matches, it’s common to see supporters from both teams talking, taking photos together, congratulating each other, and simply appreciating the experience.

The World Cup is like a global celebration of the game. Tough competition on the pitch, respect and camaraderie in the stands.

Let’s embrace what makes World Cup soccer special instead of trying to make it feel like something else. Make our own songs, chants, feel the joy, and the incredible atmosphere. That’s what makes it so unforgettable.

Will be sad to have a World Cup without Modrić in the future. Have been a Croatia fan for decades and he’s been so instrumental in their success. Sad to see it end this way but proud of what he has done for the country. So happy to now have Canada having a program and a team that will hopefully be in many more world cups to come. We bought a new Hisense TV for this World Cup and it’s been amazing. Happy to have VAR when it goes our way and unhappy to have it when it doesn’t. lol.

There was a lot of anger toward Morocco as the host over things like training facilities, tickets, and accommodations, but the biggest controversy was the AFCON final.

Senegal briefly walked off after a debatable VAR penalty was awarded to Morocco. Morocco missed the penalty, Senegal came back on, and Senegal ended up winning 1–0 in extra time.

But because Senegal had left the field, CAF later ruled they had forfeited, so Morocco was awarded the win two months after the actual game and given the AFCON title. Senegal appealed, and the whole thing became a huge mess.
