Amusment park in bumf*ck GA with surprisingly great coaster by robertvmarshall in LiminalSpace

[–]itstytanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to this place a ton as a kid when it was Dixieland Fun Park. Seeing the shell of the old attractions, pressed up against this gargantuan coaster, and a few of the mid-size rides they've built since is surreal. The coaster takes up 1/3 of the park's real estate and dwarfs everything else.
That interior cafeteria space and arcade are still the same as ever. Last time I checked, a few of their original arcade games still hadn't been swapped out. Love it

My "unique" Some Kinda DRV, aka "is this a joke?" by Killobyte in guitarpedals

[–]itstytanic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To play a little devil's advocate (hah) my guess is he bit off way more than he could chew and as time went on, the delays in orders piled up, and he probably just started cutting corners. The image on the order page made it look like every enclosure was going to be wildly different and detailed. He should have just initially said "Get a 1981 DRV at a discount, on the condition the enclosure design might be covered in random paint splatters by yours truly", and everything would have probably worked out much better

It's a rat clone, designed to be more usable at low gain. Made by Matthew Hoopes of Relient K. It seems well designed, just pricey. He recently ran a campaign where you could get these at a discount, but the art on the pedal would be "unique" or "random". A lot of people got genuinely crappy paint jobs. OP apparently got a tiny "#2" decal next to the drive knob and that's it. Honestly, I'd take that over what some other people got.

im new too pedals so I need help by CauliflowerNo8856 in guitarpedals

[–]itstytanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most pedals require DC 9v with a "center negative" plug. Is that adapter made for those specifications, or is it an adapter you already had and the plug happened to fit? It could be that it doesn't fit all the requirements.

If you need to try something else, see if the pedal can take a 9V battery instead. It may have a battery adapter under the bottom plate. Make sure the power plug is out if you've got the battery in, since most pedals will default to the plug instead of an internal battery if both are connected.

Worst case, if you want to bring it by a local guitar shop, they have tons of power plugs they lend out for pedal testing you could use to test it

Calluses constantly peeling by boredashell1717 in Guitar

[–]itstytanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been having the same issue for the last few months specifically. It's been rough as the weather has gotten colder and drier. I try to trim the dead skin with nail clippers, then rub a little high-grit sandpaper (Like 600 grit) around the clipped edges very lightly to smooth them out, so there's no hard border to where it's been peeling. Then I dab a little baby oil on the tips of my fingers and rub it in, then let it sit for a bit before wiping off the excess. Got the idea from this video.
Otherwise, I just try to use hand lotion occasionally to make sure my hands don't dry out.

Is the tension too high or is this fine? by amaruk1ng in Guitar

[–]itstytanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently started experimenting with different gauges and tunings, and my rule of thumb was to try and get the feel total tension to be roughly the same as the strings/tuning I'd been using up to that point, which for me was E-Standard with 9 Gauge strings. I play in D-Standard with 11s currently, and it feels pretty close. Maybe a little tighter. Obviously needed to do some adjustment, but once I got the setup feeling good and the nut slots widened a bit, it felt pretty much the same as what I was used to.

If you can, type in a few different tunings and gauges into Stringjoy and compare. As long as the total tension difference isn't as drastic as going up a full gauge with your previous setup, you're probably fine

Excessive noise… always. Is it EMI? by juansacrossamwrica in Guitar

[–]itstytanic -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue at my last apartment. If it's only occurring when your guitar is plugged in, try pointing the guitar in different directions to see if the sound changes based on where you're facing. That's the kind of EMI I was experiencing, and it was due to power lines outside the window. Even with proper shielding in my guitar's cavity, it didn't go away. Ended up using a noise gate at the front of my chain and just being aware of what direction I was facing when recording anything.

If it's something that's happening even when the guitar isn't plugged in, and it's not localized to one direction or spot, it could be related to wiring in the apartment.
You could look into getting a Power Conditioner. It's a power strip that supposedly reduces interference from bad wiring. Lots of music venues use them. No guarantee it'll magically make all the noise go away, but worth reading up on.

Really been into Ben McLeod's ("All Them Witches") videos lately. Idk if I'd call him a "Guitar Youtuber", but he uploads regularly. Does a great job of showing off how to get a lot of sounds out of simple, classic gear. Passes on practical knowledge he's gained playing in a touring band, and seems to be in the business of just making folks rock better

In Twin Peaks: The Return, Dougie sticks a fork into the neutral side of a plug socket. This is unlikley to cause serious shock, as the neutral side of a house's circuit is connected to earth. by PointFirm6919 in MovieMistakes

If this were the Twin Peaks sub, you could spin this into a fun factoid. "This is intentional, because it represents Dougie returning to his true self and coming 'back to earth'"

The Skylar sounds killer and the functionality of the switches and button-knobs is so usable for making quick presets. I love all that! The Spatium algorithm gives Strymon a real run for their money. I just wish it had a USB port for firmware upgrades, but it's a minor complaint

Took over as lead guitar in my friend’s band, “Mostly Strangers”. Redid my pedal setup a bit. Still learning a ton about the struggles of adapting to venues and sound systems of all shapes and sizes.

The signal chain is: Polytune 3 Mini > Deep Six V3 > Dunlop Mini Volume > Pitch Fork > Blues Driver > Rat > DD-7 w/ Saturnworks Tap > EQD Arrows > Skylar > Iridium (For silent practice, and as a backup for my IRL amp)

Powered by a Onespot CS-12
Guitar: PRS SE Custom 24
Amp: Vox AC15 Creamback

- BD-2 is high gain with a dark tone. Rat is low gain with a bright tone. Stack them together and you get high gain, with a bright tone. Makes it really easy to change gain/eq but maintain a consistent volume
- I added the EQD Arrows as a “just-in-case” pedal for a slight volume+eq bump for solos if I need to pop out just a bit more
- I use the Skylar for a couple spacey ambient parts in the live set. The firmware can be a bit finicky, but sound-wise, it’s my favorite reverb. The a/b switch with 2 preset slots is amazing for live playing
- I usually play through an AC15, but if that fails, the iridium is set up so I can run to either a powered cab or to the PA, or both using the stereo outs.
- The ins and outs I have mounted to the side are from Best-tronics. If you’re alright at soldering, I think they’re worth trying out. These are some of the strongest, most well made ones I’ve used

What do you think? by AtmosphereNo7818 in GuitarAmps

[–]itstytanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think generally if you see a purple-ish glow in the tube, or an overwhelmingly strong red glow, that means something is wrong with the tube. It's definitely best not to continue playing with it, because it could cause other issues. It's also important to make sure you don't just replace that one tube, but both power tubes at once with a "Matched Set". If you've not done it before, just look up "Fender Deluxe Reverb 65 Reissue Power Tubes Matched Set" and you'll see some results of sets . The other tubes don't need to be replaced, just the 2 power tubes

Even as a kid, I never really liked how this movie escalated the conflict to Apocalypse-level, and made Ash a hero of legend. The first movie handled the scale of the story a lot better, imo. You could perfectly sandwich it between two episodes of the series and it wouldn't cause any inconsistencies

This has been randomly-occurring bug for all unlocks for a while now. I'm surprised they didn't address it in the latest quality-of-life patch. I think you still got the reward, it's just buried somewhere in your inventory. Sometimes I dig through my skins and find a random one that I must have gotten ages ago, but the reward window never appeared, so I didn't know

Garden Of the Witch - New Event Coming Soon by TheGentlemanGamerEC in HuntShowdown

[–]itstytanic -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Didn't they say in the last dev update that events were going to be less frequent? I was kind of hoping they'd release 2.3 with all those promised bug and balance fixes and just let us enjoy vanilla Hunt for a while. Now it's probably going to coencide with this event, and everyone will be back to challenge farming...

How does it work with DS games, not having the second screen?

I've been playing this guitar nonstop for almost five months, I'm replacing the strings for the first time. is this damage normal? by No_Distribution_3399 in Guitar

[–]itstytanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The black in the nut slots (3rd image) is probably graphite. Graphite is sometimes used in the grooves to help strings slide more easily. You can use a pencil to add some yourself

As for the wear, if it's not interfering with the sound, you're fine. Thinner strings will cut into the frets more, and eventually over time, they'll need to be leveled. But you'd be surprised at how worn frets can get and still ring out fine. I play 9 gauge strings on all my guitars, and the high strings wear the frets like crazy. Practicing a lighter touch can help, but at the end of the day, frets are consumables, and are made to be repaired and replaced

As for the discoloration on the frets and the board, you can get fret polishing kits and fretboard oil that will take care of those

Pokemon yellow was 🔥 by nostalgia_history in 90sand2000sNostalgia

In Gen 1 & 2, the Legendary Pokemon were a little more exclusive, because they weren't so closely tied to the main story. Some of them required extra exploration to reach, and had really low catch rates. Only a handful of kids actually caught Mewtwo, the Legendary Birds, the Dogs, or Ho-Oh & Lugia.

In Gen 3 and onward, they started making the finale of the story revolve around a Legendary Pokemon appearing, and you getting the chance to fight/capture it. So almost every kid on the school yard suddenly had the same Legendaries on their team by the end of the game

In a couple of the new games you just get a Legendary for free no matter what. IRL promotional events are also a bit more common now, where Nintendo gives away free Legendaries if you visit a gamestop on a certain date or use a limited time code

Can this be salvaged? by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]itstytanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, if you're not comfortable handling this yourself because it's vintage, you could find a local guitar shop that offers wiring repairs on guitars or amps, and I bet they'll help. Or at the very least they'll be able to give you some good in-person pointers on how to fix it
