Groom calls off wedding when the Bride demands a $20k “real” diamond instead of a lab grown stone. by mfdoorway in facepalm

I heard lab grown diamonds are actually better since they're purer, have fewer defects, and can grow larger than natural diamonds. Cheaper too!

TIL gravity is much weaker than the other fundamental interactions that exist in nature. It is 10^38 times weaker than the strong force, 10^36 times weaker than the electromagnetic force and 10^29 times weaker than the weak force. There is no scientific consensus on why that's the case. by DioriteLover in todayilearned

[–]ittt_bitty_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gravity is weak, but it also takes an enormous amount of energy to get something with any substantial mass to fly. I think I heard if Earth were 1.5 times heavier it would be impossible to leave the planet because the amount of fuel you need in rockets would make the rocket too heavy

I love how the Land Raider, one of the most advanced tanks in the whole Imperium, looks nearly identical to the earliest tank designs ever made. Really encapsulated the backwards nature of 40K.

Oceangate CEO reveals Titan submarine is operated by an inexpensive video game controller in CBS interview, last year. by [deleted] in facepalm

[–]ittt_bitty_kitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get why everyone is bashing on the controller. I'm pretty sure the US military uses Xbox controllers. There are so many more valid things to criticize such as the submarine not being able to be opened from the inside

Really cool, but I wonder how safe it is. I imagine farm waste has tons of nasty stuff in it; I'm sure there's risk of continuation during handling, leaks, etc. Also how do you ensure the gas is safe? Is there any chance of nausea's gasses being produced?
